Glee: The Next Generation Season Three, Episode #1: "Days of Glory"Edit

So here’s what happened last season on Glee: The Next Generation:

Gah, so much happened last season so where do we begin? New girl Lana took McKinley by storm and she stole Hallie away from Bella, but it’s okay because it looks like Bella finally found true love with Hallie’s cousin, Reece. Reece goes to Thurston High, Lana’s old school. He’s in Glee Club with Chad Riker-Smith, who transferred there but now he’s friends with New Directions and he also came out as gay. Lucas still hasn’t let go of his insecurities due to Chad gay bashing him and it finally drove Evan away - literally. Due to the stress of his relationship with Lucas and not being appreciated, Evan transferred to Dalton and spent time as a Warbler. There he met his new boyfriend, Claude, who also had a thing for Evan’s close friend Jaxon in the past. But that was while Jaxon was broken up with James because James started hanging with Aldy’s bad crowd. But it was because James had an identity crisis and wanted to be a bad boy. That whole phase lead to a couple of bad events that James wishes he could take back. Hallie found out her rapist baby daddy isn’t dead, he just skipped town and she had a whole Emo phase. Then Jaxon got stabbed, which upset New Directions because they already had lost one friend. R.I.P. John. One loss they aren’t upset about? India, who’s evil schemes finally got her expelled. But now things are totally different. Jameson is back together and engaged and James is a member of the Berry clan. Lana’s mom forced her to dump Hallie, but after prom they got back together, but in secret and her mom still doesn’t know. Not back together? Miles and Breezy. She dumped him because she’s going to college early next year. Bummer, especially for poor Miles. Jesse St. James quit Vocal Adrenaline because of new guy Spider, who is a douche. Chastity got knocked up and skipped town. And the Warblers are now on friendly terms with New Directions, so who knows what they can expect competition wise. And despite winning Nationals, Lana punching India got them disqualified from Internationals. But at least they have something to strive for. Now excuse me while I catch my breath.

And that’s what you missed on Glee!

A handheld camera shook as it made its way down the hallway toward Lucas and Honey, who were holding hands.

“Honey Berry,” Parker Pennington said, thrusting a microphone in her direction. “So is it true? Declan Pierce dumped you this summer before heading off to Harvard?”

“I don’t wanna talk about that,” Honey said. “It’s in the past.”

“So I can confirm that one of McKinley’s power couples has hit the skids,” Parker said. “And please explain why you’re holding hands with gay bashing victim Lucas Aguirre.”

“We’re dating now,” Honey said. “As if it were anyone’s business.”

“But isn’t Lucas gay?” Parker asked.

Honey rolled her eyes. “He’s bisexual. What the hell kind of reporter are you? Ever heard of fact check?”

Parker stuck his head in front of the camera. “Let’s move on, Todd.”

Todd spun the camera around and it came to rest on Lana, Hallie, Jaxon, James, Miles, and Evan.

“Bingo,” Parker said. “Lana Addison!”

Lana frowned as Parker shoved a microphone under her nose.

“Rumor has it that you and Hallie are still seeing each other in secret, against Mama Addison’s wishes,” Parker said.

“And if word gets out to her, I’ll break your nose,” Lana said. “ Now get that camera out of my face or I’ll make you eat it.”

Parker moved the microphone over to Jaxon. Jaxon rolled his eyes.

“The whole school wants to know,” Parker said. “Has the ultimate power couple at McKinley taken the next step? Any truth to the rumors that the rings you and James sport are in fact, engagement rings?”

“No comment,” Jaxon said.

“I’ll take your silence as a reluctant affirmation.” Parker said.

“You better edit that out,” Jaxon said, reaching for the camera.

“Run!” Parker said as he turned around and the camera began to shake Blair Witch-style as he ran down the hall, passing Louis and four other letterman with slushies in their hands.

“We’re gonna start our senior year off right,” Louis said as he approached Jaxon and the others.

“I’ve never been slushied before,” Evan said.

“I have and it’s not fun,” Miles said. “I want to run, but I’m paralyzed with fear.”

“Welcome back, freaks,” Louis said.

The New Directions members braced themselves for the hit as all five slushies were thrown into their faces.

“Losers,” one of the guys said as they all continued down the hall, laughing.

“That was quite unpleasant,” Evan said, orange slush dripping off his face.

“I have a brain freeze now,” Miles said.

“But on the plus side,” Kevin said, appearing beside them. “I bet you all taste delicious.”

Miles reached over and smacked Kevin in the back of the head. Kevin didn’t seem fazed as he reached over and wiped a bit of slushie from Miles’s face and licked it off his finger.

“Yum,” Kevin said. “Green apple.”

Hallie walked out of the bathroom, finishing drying her face before throwing the crumpled up paper towel in the trashcan.

A lot has happened over the summer. My brush with Chris last year was a turning point that made me realize things needed to change. I had lost sight of who I was last year. I wasn’t the same Hallie Grace that I was before I met Lana.

Don’t get me wrong, Lana is not a problem. But I had grown so accustomed to letting Lana be the tough one that I had let myself soften up and get weak. But not anymore. This past summer, I took an empowerment class down at the civic center, got myself a new and tougher looking hair style, and a more mature style of clothing. But most importantly, I quit the Cheerios.

Yes, I quit the Cheerios. What does spelling out words, doing cartwheels, and shaking pom-poms have to do with self-empowerment? Naturally, Coach Sylvester wasn’t too happy about it.

Hallie flashed back to earlier that morning, sitting in Sue’s office. She set her uniform on the desk.

“You can’t just quit the Cheerios!” Sue said. “Either I kick you off or you die and seeing as you’re not in a coffin--”

The flashback ended and Hallie stopped at her locker.

That fragile, weak Hallie is a thing of the past. And just like the Cheerios, it was nothing but a forgotten memory. I was never going back there again.

So here I was, another day at McKinley High.

Adam sighed as he shut his locker and started down the hallway.

A lot happened to me over the summer. I just woke up one day and realized that I had grew like four inches. My voice deepened and I felt completely different. Then my mom keep on talking about how I was a late bloomer. I think that was a puberty remark.

Anyway, I went to a summer camp and the next thing I knew, I had bulked up a little bit. I looked in the mirror and for the first time ever, I felt like a stud. Now, as I walked down the hall, all the girls started staring at me.

Then I realized – oh my gosh, I’m on their radar. Girls are finally noticing me! I smiled to myself, knowing that finally the dweeb I used to be was a thing of the past. No more Justin Bieber comparisons, no more people thinking I was gay. I finally felt like a man.

Adam smiled as he walked past Nicole. Nicole did a double take, not quite able to believe her eyes.

____________________________________________________________

Nicole stared at Adam as he walked away.

I feel really bad for looking so long at Adam. I’m not all about looks, but Adam really just caught my attention. He just seems so different now. I never looked at him like this before. I know I have a boyfriend. In fact, I have a really nice boyfriend who just so happens to go to another school. But dare I say this? Adam has gotten really…cute?

Nicole, stop it. You have Dillon, who is a complete and total gentleman. But a look can’t hurt, right? Ugh, and things are so well for you and Dillon too. You still have your promise ring and you once again spent the summer together at camp. Minus Evan, this time, unfortunately. Apparently he spent the whole summer doing things with Claude and trying to convince him to transfer to McKinley.

I however could never get that lucky. Dillon’s roots were firmly planted at Dalton.

Nicole sighed as she made her way to the choir room.

Claude tried to blend in as he marched down the halls of McKinley, searching frantically for Evan.

So, my name is Claude Montague and you might recognize me as a former Dalton Academy Warbler. But seeing as how I’ve ditched the blazer and tie for relaxed fit t-shirt, I guess you already figured out that I transferred to McKinley High.

At first, I was reluctant. The Warblers had been my home for four years. But then, I realized that I had four years with them and that was the same amount of time most people got to spend with their high school friends. And here I was, a second year senior all because I failed last year.

It was really my fault. See, I have dyslexia and sometimes it can really be a burden. And I had a lot going on last year and somewhere along the way, I got lost and couldn’t get caught back up. I tried so hard but my dyslexia just made it all harder.

Then I met Evan. Over the summer, he managed to persuade me to transfer to McKinley high. I’m not gonna lie, it took a little convincing. Then he convinced me in his pool, in my bedroom, and even in the changing room in American Eagle Outfitters. How could I say no?

And yes, I am actually serious about that.

Claude smiled as he met up with Evan. Claude took his hand and they walked toward the choir room.

Will put the dry erase marker down and stepped away from the board. Written behind him was “welcome back.” He smiled at all the returning faces.

“It is so great to see you guys again,” Will said. “And I notice that we have a new face among us. Everyone please welcome the newest member of New Directions, Claude Montague.”

James rolled his eyes. “Great. The guy who tried to sink his claws into my man is now in the same room as him.”

“You don’t have to worry, James,” Claude said. “That’s in the past. I’m with Evan now and we have a very strong, monogamous relationship.”

“I don’t trust him,” Miles said. “We’ve all heard your story about Jesse St. James, Mr. Schue. How do we know he’s not pulling something like that?”

“Yeah,” Bella said as Lana nodded in agreement.

“May I just remind you James that you are a former member of Vocal Adrenaline.,” Will said. “And Lana, Adam, Ana, and Natasha are all former Femme Fatales. But you all excepted them without question. Claude is your friend, so you guys should show him the same consideration.”

“To be honest,” James said. “I didn’t get that same consideration.”

“I’m sorry about that James,” Evan said.

“And to be fair Mr. Schue,” Bella said. “We have a whole group dynamic here. We do things totally different than the Warblers.”

“I’m willing to learn,” Claude said. “Just be patient with me and be willing to teach me.”

“New Directions has never been about exclusion,” Will said. “And it’s not gonna start to be this year. Claude is one of us now. And to make him feel like one of us, I have an assignment for you guys.”

“An assignment?” Taylor asked. “Already?”

“You guys are to perform an impromptu song tomorrow,” Will said. “Coach Sylvester will blow her whistle and that’s your cue.”

“What’s the point of this?” Miles asked.

“To show that your group dynamic won’t be affected and that it doesn’t have to be rehearsed. It happens naturally. Now, we have the very important matter of our competition. I just got word from a little birdie that Vocal Adrenaline forced Spider out after what he pulled at Regionals. They have a new lead singer and a new director. Archie Carmichael is now their director, so we definitely have to step it up this year.”

“Archie’s Vocal Adrenaline’s director?” James said.

“Yeah, that’s not good,” Jaxon said.

“But they’re not the only ones we have to look out for.,” Will said. “Nicole tells me that Dillon is stepping down as the Warblers’ lead to focus on school and his relationship with her. That means that Chuck is assuming the lead position. He’s not dating any of you, so he’s not gonna go as easy on us. They do seem to have a weakness. They’re down three members from last year.”

“Wyatt graduated,” Lana said. “And he said that X quit the Warblers over some bullsh—some bullcrap about not getting a solo. Anyway, needless to say he won’t be returning because the Warblers and him are basically at war.”

“And I’ve heard through the grapevine that Aural Audacity is staging a major comeback and is a competitor to look out for,” Will said.

“Oh lord,” Nicole said. “That’s Kari Martinez’s show choir.”

“Who is Kari Martinez?” Jaxon asked.

“She’s some stuck up girl I met at summer camp two summers ago,” Evan said. “She and Nicole hate each other for some reason.”

“She always has to try and steal my thunder. Not to mention my solos,” Nicole added. “And she’s an all-around stuck up, snobby bitch.”

“Moving on,” Will said. “Coach Sylvester got held over by her first day of Cheerios auditions so instead of waiting on her, let’s just get to work. We’ve got a lot of preparation to do against our competition this year if we hope to win Internationals.”

“What’s the point?” Bella said. “We won Nationals and we didn’t even get a banner in the hallway or not even congratulated over the morning announcements. Five of our own were slushied this morning. We’re still losers.”

“Then we have to work harder this year and win Internationals,” Will said. “Then they won’t have a choice but to treat us like winners.”

“I don’t think I’m the right person to lead us to victory,” Bella said. “I love New Directions and I’ve worked so hard to help build this team and foster our growth and team dynamic. But I really want to open up time for other possibilities in my life. In my eyes, there is only one other person who should join Jaxon in leading us to a win at Internationals.”

“And who’s that?” Will asked.

“Lana, of course,” Bella said. “She’s more than proved herself and besides, she was the captain of the Femme Fatales.”

“I don’t know,” Lana said. “I’m one of the newbies. I don’t wanna cause any drama.”

“All in favor?” Will asked, looking around the room at all the hands shooting up.

“Well, it seems they’re all in favor,” Will said. “Say hello to your new co-captain, Lana Addison.”

New Directions clutched their books and backpacks tightly as they walked through the courtyard. Kevin ducked, nearly falling on his butt as he heard the loud, sharp shrill of Sue’s whistle.

“Well,” Jaxon said. “That’s our cue. It’s now or never, guys.”

Miles rolled his eyes. “Really? Right now?”

Lana looked at the guitarist as he seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

“Really?” She asked. “Do you guys just carry those around?”

“Chasing the Sun,” Jaxon told the guitarist as he joined the rest of the band.

“Really?” Lana asked again. “Am I the only one who finds this strangely too convenient and slightly abnormal?”

The band began to play as Jaxon jumped up on a table. He leaned down, took Hallie’s hand and helped her up onto the table to join him.

“I'm better,” Jaxon sang. “So much better now. I see the light, touch the light, we're together now.”

“I'm better,” Hallie sang. “So much better now. Look to the skies, gives me life, we're together now.”

“We've only just begun,” Jaxon and Hallie sang. “Hypnotized by drums until forever comes. You'll find us chasing the sun. They said this day wouldn't come. We refused to run, we've only just begun. You'll find us chasing the sun.”

“Oh oh oh oh oh oh,” New Directions sang as they danced around. “Oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. You'll find us chasing the sun. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. You'll find us chasing the sun. When daylight's fading, we're gonna play in the dark till it's golden again. And now it feels so amazing. Can see you coming and we'll never grow old again. You'll find us chasing the sun.”

“I'm never,” Miles sang as he ran up the steps. “I'm never down. Lying here, staring up and you're looking down.”

The crowd watched as New Directions performed. Miles slid down the rail of the staircase. When he reached the end, he vaulted into the air, landing on his feet. He ran past Lana, giving her a high five.

“I'm never,” Claude sang. “I'm never down. Live forever, forever with you around.”

Claude pointed at Evan and gave him a wink. Evan smiled.

“We've only just begun,” Miles and Claude sang. “Hypnotized by drums until forever comes. You'll find us chasing the sun. They said this day wouldn't come. We refused to run, we've only just begun. You'll find us chasing the sun, the sun, the sun, the sun. You'll find us chasing the sun.”

“Oh oh oh oh oh oh,” New Directions sang as they jumped up and down, pumping their fists into the air. “Oh oh oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh oh. You'll find us chasing the sun. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. You'll find us chasing the sun. When the daylight's fading, we're gonna play in the dark till it's golden again. And now it feels so amazing. Can see you coming and we'll never grow old again. You'll find us chasing the sun.”

“You'll find us chasing the sun,” Jaxon sang.

“When the daylight's fading, we're gonna play in the dark till it's golden again,” New Directions sang. “And now it feels so amazing. Can see you coming and we'll never grow old again. You'll find us chasing the sun. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. You'll find us chasing the sun. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh oh oh. You'll find us chasing the sun.”

As New Directions struck a pose and awaited the applause, Adam tripped over the bottom step and hit the ground. Miles extended his hand, helping Adam up. The applause never came. Instead, the crowd shook their heads and walked away.

“You should be more careful,” Miles said.

“Yeah, I should,” Adam said. “Dancing, it’s my kryptonite.”

Miles and Adam hung back as the rest of New Directions went on their way. Adam looked at Nicole, watching her walk away.

“You like her, huh?” Miles said.

“Yeah, but she doesn’t know I exist,” Adam said.

“Well you just need the swag, and that my friend, is what Miles Larson is the master of,” Miles said.

Adam looked down and saw his shirt sleeve pushed up. He panicked, pulling it down as fast as he could. He looked at Miles, trying to read his face to see if he might have noticed.

“That looks like cuts,” Miles said.

“It’s not,” Adam said. “I have a cat and he’s been acting a little weird. He scratched me up.”

Miles nodded. “Sure. But just know, I had a close friend who did that to himself and it eventually killed him. It’s serious, okay?”

“I told you, I have a cat.”

“A tiger?” Miles asked, scoffing. “Your arm looks pretty bad, okay? And it really messed me up when my friend slit his wrists and killed himself, okay? So let’s go talk to Mrs. Pillsbury-Schuester. Last time, I was too late to help. This time, I won’t be. Okay?”

Adam shook his head. “I told you--”

“You don’t have a damn cat, Adam!” Miles said, perhaps a bit more angry than he wanted. “You cut yourself, okay? You need help.”

“Mr. Know It All,” Adam sang, getting up in Miles’ face. “Well you think you know it all. But you don't know a thing at all. Ain't it, ain't it something, y'all, when somebody tells you something 'bout you? Think that they know you more than you do so you take it down, another pill to swallow.”

Miles shook his head, trying to laugh it off as this little sophomore was in his face like he was all big and bad.

“Mr. Bring Me Down. Well you, you like to bring me down, don't you? But I ain't laying down, buddy, I ain't going down. Can't nobody tell me how it's gonna be. Nobody's gonna make a fool out of me. Buddy, you should know that I lead not follow. Oh you think that you know me, know me. That's why I'm leaving you lonely, lonely. 'Cause buddy, you don't know a thing about me, you don't know a thing about me. You ain't got the right to tell me when and where to go, no right to tell me. Acting like you own me lately. Yeah buddy, you don't know a thing about me, you don't know a thing about me.”

Miles turned around and began to walk off, shaking his head in disbelief.

“Mr. Play Your Games,” Adam sang as he followed Miles. “Only got yourself to blame when you hold me back again but I ain't falling back again. 'Cause I'm living my truth without your lies. Let's be clear buddy, this is goodbye. I ain't coming back tomorrow. Oh you think that you know me, know me. That's why I'm leaving you lonely, lonely. 'Cause buddy you don't know a thing about me. You don't know a thing about me. You ain't got the right to tell me when and where to go, no right to tell me. Acting like you own me lately. Yeah buddy, you don't know a thing about me, you don't know a thing about me.”

Miles stopped walking and turned to face Adam.

“So what you've got the world at your feet and you know everything about everything but you don't. You still think I'm coming back but buddy you'll see, yeah. Oh you think that you know me, know me. That's why I'm leaving you lonely, lonely. 'Cause buddy you don't know a thing about me, you don't know a thing about me. You ain't got the right to tell me when and where to go, no right to tell me. Acting like you own me lately. Yeah buddy, you don't know a thing about me, you don't know a thing about me. Mr. Know It All, well you think you know it all but you don't know a thing at all. Yeah baby you don't know a thing about m, you don't know a thing about me.”

As Adam stopped singing, Miles smiled.

“You know, kid, you got spunk. You have gall and tenacity. So I will make you a deal. You stop doing that to yourself and I’ll teach you how to have Miles Larson swag and help you get Nicole.”

Adam smiled as Miles held out his hand.

“Deal?” Miles asked.

Adam took Miles’ hand and shook it. “Deal.”

The next day during lunch, James skipped out and headed to a secret rendezvous in the auditorium.

“You finally made it,” Ana said as James walked through the door.

“Sorry. I had to make up an excuse to skip out on Jaxon and all our friends,” James said.

“You serious?” Ana asked. “You really want me help you with some new dance moves and help get your mojo back?”

“I prefer the term ‘swagger’ because mojo makes me think about Austin Powers and I just wanna laugh uncontrollably.”

“Look, you’re engaged to the boy,” Ana said. “Why do you care if you got your swagger back?”

James blushed. “Because I wanna keep him interested.”

Ana smiled. “Well, come on. Get your booty up on this stage and do this with me. We only have forty-five minutes to nail this routine.”

James jogged up the steps as Ana walked over and pressed play on the stereo.

“Denim-jean jacket, pink Chucks and a mini skirt,” Ana sang as she danced toward James.

“Be your bad habit, throw me up against the wall first,” James sang.

Ana grabbed James by his collar, spun him around and threw him up against the wall.

“I take advantage of you,” Ana sang.

“You take advantage of me,” James sang.

Ana pressed her body against James.

“Drink up this bottle again,” Ana sang as she wrapped her arms around James. “And paint your body on me.”

“Put your graffiti on me!” Ana and James sang. “Put your graffiti on me! Put your graffiti on me, me! Tag me! Tag me! Put your name on it! Put your, put your name on it! Put your name on it! Put your, put your name on it! Put your name on it! Put your, put your name on it! Put your name on it! Put your, put your name on it!” Ana began to dance sexy and seductive as James followed her lead, step for step.

“Cotton-candy, lollipop,” Ana sang. “Sticky like a post-it.”

“You don't need to drum my heart,” James sang as he wrapped his arms around Ana’s waist from behind. “You already own it.”

Ana turned around and jumped in James’ arms. She wrapped her legs around him, leaning backward.

“I take advantage of you,” Ana sang.

“You take advantage of me,” James sang.

“Drink up this bottle again,” Ana sang as she jumped up and did a leap-frog over James.

Put your, put your name on it!”

Treat me like concrete under your feet,” Ana sang as she sauntered over to James. '“I'll be your canvas incomplete. Your paper-doll, your alley wall heart in graffiti.”

“Tag me,” James sang. “Tag me.”

Put your graffiti on me!” Ana and James sang. “Put your graffiti on me! Put your graffiti on me, me! Tag me! Tag me! Put your name on it! Put your, put your name on it! Put your name on it! Put your, put your name on it! Put your name on it! Put your, put your name on it! Put your name on it! Put your, put your name on it!”

“Tag me,” James sang. “Tag me.”

Ana applauded. “Good boy, you kept up! Have you ever considered joining the Cheerios? You’re a natural.”

“I feel like we just went to first to third base,” James said, smiling.

“That will definitely keep your man interested,” Ana said with a wink.

Later, in Glee club, Miles and Adam walked in and sat together. Evan looked at Claude, confused.

“You don’t think he switched teams, do you?” Evan asked.

“No, Miles is an alpha male,” Claude said. “Never gonna happen.”

“He did kiss Jaxon last year,” Evan said.

“A lot of guys kiss other guys,” Claude said. “It’s like normal or something according to Dr. Drew. Trust me, Miles and Adam are playing for team straight.”

“Well, we know Miles is, but we’ve had our doubts about Adam for a while now,” Evan replied.

“I can hear you guys,” Miles said, leaning down. “I’m taking Adam under my wing. I’m going to turn him into Miles Larson two-point-oh.”

“Because quite simply there were too many skirts to chase in this school for one Miles,” Evan said. “Guess we’ll be seeing a sign with his face and a giant no sign on the girl’s restroom door next.”

“As if you have a lot of room to talk,” Miles said. “Your list of crushes and exes is just a long as mine but which one up us ended up with the label of a player?”

“Speaking of which, do you still have your shirt?” Evan asked with a smile.

“Yeah,” Miles said. “And how’s your shirt doing, Angry Guy?”

Evan exhaled as he crossed his arms.

“I rest my case,” Miles said with a smirk.

“Miles?” Will said. “Do you have something to share?”

“As a matter of a fact, I do, Mr. Schue,” Miles said as he got up and walked down to the front of the classroom. “I thought I might let myself be a little vulnerable and sing something personal.”

“Go right ahead,” Will said as he pushed a stool over to Miles.

Miles took a seat on the stool and adjusted the microphone stand as he mouthed something to the band. The music began as he looked into the group of his peers.

“This time, I wonder what it feels like to find the one in this life, the one we all dream of,” Miles sang. “But dreams just aren't enough so I'll be waiting for the real thing, I'll know it by the feeling. The moment when we're meeting, will play out like a scene straight off the silver screen. So I'll be holding my breath, right up 'til the end. Until that moment when, I find the one that I'll spend forever with. ‘Cause nobody wants to be the last one there. ‘Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares. Someone to love with my life in their hands. There's gotta be somebody for me like that. ‘Cause nobody wants to do it on their own and everyone wants to know they're not alone. There's somebody else that feels the same somewhere. There's gotta be somebody for me out there.”

Jaxon looked around the room before leaning toward Lana.

“I wonder where Bella is,” Jaxon said. “This could be hella awkward.”

“I’ll go find her if you pop the popcorn,” Lana joked.

“She’s at Cheerio’s auditions with Rose,” Hallie said.

“Bella a Cheerio?” Lana asked. “Hell done froze over. Now I have to keep all those promises I made and didn’t intend to keep.”

“Tonight, out on the street, out in the moonlight and dammit this feels too right. It's just like déja vu, me standing here with you. So I'll be holding my breath, could this be the end? Is it that moment when, I find the one that I'll spend forever with.

“Am I the only one who thinks this seems weird coming from Miles?” Kevin asked.

Lana took a piece of gum out a cardboard pack. She lined it up and threw it right at Kevin, hitting him in the back of the head.

“Score!” Lana said. “That was a three pointer!”

“You can't give up when you're looking for a diamond in the rough cause you never know. When it shows up, make sure you're holding on. ‘Cause it could be the one, the one you're waiting on. ‘Cause nobody wants to be the last one there and everyone wants to feel like someone cares. Someone to love with my life in their hands. There's gotta be somebody for me, oh. Nobody wants to go it on their own and everyone wants to know they're not alone. There's somebody else that feels the same somewhere. There's gotta be somebody for me out there. Nobody wants to be the last one there ‘cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares. There's somebody else that feels the same somewhere. There's gotta be somebody for me out there.”

As everyone else applauded, Taylor seemed to stare dreamily at Miles. Miles started toward his seat, but Evan stood up and stopped him.

“Look, man,” Evan said. “I never knew you felt that way. I’m sorry. Are we cool?”

Miles nodded. “Cool, bro.”

Miles stood at his locker after Glee Club, swapping out books. He smelled the scent of Lovespell wafting towards him, which could only mean one thing. Taylor.

“Hey, Taylor,” Miles said with a smile.

“So, I was really moved by your song in Glee Club,” Taylor said. “I never knew you could be so sensitive. So, I decided I wanted to put my feelings into song, too. But I didn’t want to sing it in there because it’s a little more personal and not quite as deep as yours.”

Miles smiled. “Okay then. Well, I’m all ears.”

“I threw a wish in the well,” Taylor sang. “Don't ask me, I'll never tell. I looked to you as it fell and now you're in my way. I'd trade my soul for a wish, pennies and dimes for a kiss. I wasn't looking for this but now you're in my way. Your stare was holding. Ripped jeans, skin was showing. Hot night, wind was blowing. Where you think you're going, baby? Hey, I just met you and this is crazy, but here's my number. So call me, maybe? It's hard to look right at you, baby. But here's my number so call me, maybe?”

The scene changed to Miles on the football field, running drills. Taylor sat by herself in the stands, singing.

“Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy. But here's my number so call me, maybe? And all the other boys try to chase me. But here's my number so call me, maybe? You took your time with the call, I took no time with the fall. You gave me nothing at all but still, you're in my way. I beg, and borrow and steal. Have foresight and it's real. I didn't know I would feel it but it's in my way. Your stare was holding. Ripped jeans, skin was showing. Hot night, wind was blowing. Where you think you're going, baby? Hey, I just met you and this is crazy but here's my number so call me, maybe?”

Taylor stood in front of the locker room door, looking the glass at Miles as he walked from the shower to his locker. He started to drop the towel, but the glass fogged up, obscuring the view.

“It's hard to look right at you baby, but here's my number, so call me, maybe? Hey, I just met you and this is crazy, but here's my number so call me, maybe? And all the other boys try to chase me, but here's my number so call me, maybe? Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad. I missed you so bad, I missed you so, so bad. Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad and you should know that I missed you so, so bad. It's hard to look right at you baby, but here's my number so call me, maybe? Hey, I just met you and this is crazy, but here's my number so call me, maybe? And all the other boys try to chase me but here's my number so call me, maybe? Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad. I missed you so bad, I missed you so, so bad. Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad and you should know that so call me, maybe?”

Miles stepped out of the locker room, fully dressed and wearing his letterman jacket. Taylor smiled as she slipped a piece of paper into his pocket and walked off. Miles put his hand in his pocket and felt the paper as he watched Taylor walk away.

The following day, Nicole chased Evan down at his locker. Evan looked at her, sort of confused.

“Um, hi,” Evan said.

“I just wanted to say that the way New Directions has not been very welcoming to Claude is wrong,” Nicole said. “I consider the two of us friends and I think that we should work together to come up with the perfect group song to sing today.”

“All I can think about is how we just won Nationals and we never got our days of glory. We’re still treated like losers in our own hometown.”

Nicole smiled. “I think we got our song, Evan.”

New Directions stood onstage as pictures taking from Hollywood and Paris flashed behind them on the giant screen. Nicole and Evan looked at each other and smiled as the music began.

“I've been walking in the same way as I did,” Nicole sang. “Missing all the cracks in the pavement and tutting my heel and strutting my feet. Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I could call? No and thank you, please Madam. I ain't lost, just wandering.”

“Round my hometown, memories are fresh,” New Directions sang. “Round my hometown, ooh the people I've met are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of this world, are the wonders of my world.”

“I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque,” Evan sang. “I love to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades. I like it in the city when two worlds collide. You get the people and the government, everybody taking different sides.”

“Shows that we ain't gonna stand shit,” Lana sang. “Shows that we are united., shows that we ain't gonna take it, shows that we ain't gonna stand shit, shows that we are united.”

“Round my hometown, memories are fresh,” New Directions sang. “Round my hometown, ooh the people I've met are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of my world, are the wonders of this world, are the wonders of my world. Of my world, of my world, yea. Of my world, of my world, yea.”

Emma stood in the aisle, looking sad as she motioned to Jaxon. Jaxon uneasily walked over to her. Emma had a solemn look on her face as she pulled him aside, and whispered something in his ear. New Directions stood there, watchin

“Oh my god!” Jaxon said as he ran out the door, as fast as he could.

Everyone looked at one another as Lana, James, and Miles started to run after Jaxon. Miles was the first into the hall where Jaxon stood.

“What’s going on?” Lana asked.

Jaxon turned slowly to face her, all the color draining from his face.

“It’s my dad,” Jaxon said. “He was in a car accident and…and…”

“Is he okay?” Miles said.

“He didn’t make it,” Jaxon said. “I’m going to the hospital.”

Jaxon turned around and ran as fast as he could until his footsteps were no longer audible.

Jaxon stood there emotionless inside the emergency room lobby a little while later as the doors slid open and Lana and James ran to him. Lana extended her arms, grabbing Jaxon and holding tightly.

“Jaxon, I’m so sorry,” Lana said.

Jaxon stood there, staring unblinkingly at Bella, Hallie, Miles, Evan, and Claude. They all stood in the doorway of the emergency room, silent.

“Jaxon?” Lana asked, moving back to look Jaxon in the eye. “It’s okay to cry. Come on, you haven’t cried once yet. Let it out. Please.”

Jaxon swallowed the lump in his throat as he grabbed Lana as tight as he could, burying his head in her shirt, crying. James looked at Lana, sharing a sympathetic glance as he put his hand on Jaxon’s shoulder and gave it a tight squeeze.

“He’s gone,” Jaxon said through his tears.

Lana fought back tears as she held Jaxon tighter. “You still have us. And we won’t let you got through this alone.”

Bella looked at her other friends and nodded as they walked over to join them, throwing their arms around Jaxon, James, and Lana.

“I, I just need a moment,” Jaxon said. “Alone.”

“Of course,” Lana said as he let Jaxon go, breaking the group hug. Jaxon walked slowly toward the room where his dad was.

“Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence,” Jaxon sang as he walked down the hallway. “My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then. Spin me around ‘til I fell asleep. Then up the stairs he would carry me and I knew for sure I was loved.”

Jaxon stopped in front of the closed door to the room where his father lay. He looked through the window as he sang.

“If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him, I’d play a song that would never, ever end. How I’d love, love, love to dance with my father again. When I and my mother would disagree, to get my way, I would run from her to him. He’d make me laugh just to comfort me, then finally make me do just what my mama said. Later that night when I was asleep, he left a dollar under my sheet. Never dreamed that he would be gone from me.”

Jaxon closed and in his eyes, he was transported to the auditorium. He was a little kid again, full of innocence, as his father picked him up and twirled him around on the stage.

“If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him, I’d play a song that would never, ever end. ‘Cause I’d love, love, love to dance with my father again. Sometimes I’d listen outside her door and I’d hear how my mother cried for hi. I pray for her even more than me. I pray for her even more than me.”

All of a sudden, Jaxon opened his eyes and his was back to his normal self, holding onto air as he danced with himself.

“I know I’m praying for much too much, but could you send back the only man she loved? I know you don’t do it usually, but dear Lord she’s dying to dance with my father again. Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream.”

“Jaxon?” Will asked as he walked into the auditorium. “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at home?”

“I didn’t want to be alone,” Jaxon said.

Will nodded as he walked onstage to join Jaxon. “Come here.”

Jaxon walked over to join Mr. Schue. Jaxon reached for him, practically collapsing in tears into Will’s arms. Will held him as he felt tears welling up in his own eyes.
