Glee: TNG Season 2, Episode #4: "Duets Deux"Edit

So here’s what you missed on Glee: The Next Generation:

Aldy’s bad boy side has Jaxon and India swooning and it has James super jealous. James is even trying to act bad, but it’s not fooling Jaxon. Miles and India are over, and so far India’s been kind of nice. But it seems that may change. India knows that Lana likes Hallie and the two are at war ever since Lana slushied her for being mean to Hallie, who was named the new Cheerios Captain. Speaking of Hallie, she and Lana kissed and Hallie liked it. She even saw fireworks, but Bella doesn’t know. Breezy has a crush on Miles, which surprises even her knowing Miles’ history. And it would appear that Evan is playing hard to get when it comes to Lucas, who he’s totally digging.

And that’s what you missed on Glee!

____________________________________________________________

So here’s the deal, India thought to herself. I don’t like this new girl Lana. I can tell there is something up between her and Hallie. I smell the same sexual chemistry I smelt on Jaxon and James last year during 80’s week.

Lana obviously has the hots for Hallie and I know this would upset Bella. Perhaps even break up their little alliance . Yes, I know all about that. India Wilson is a very perceptive person.

Here recently, I’ve softened up and I’ve lost my edge. My popularity is in the gutter. I wasn’t the write in for Prom Queen, I lost Cheerios Captain, and I don’t command the same respect when I walk down the halls. See those girls I just passed by? They should be cowering in fear, hanging back, bowing…anything really.

I used to be the HBIC and the Queen Bee, but being nice and then moving for the summer created a perfect storm of reputation assassination. Well, no more. Look out McKinley, India Ariella Wilson is giving no mercy. The bitch is back.

India stopped in her tracks, looking straight ahead at Lana as she grabbed her books out of her locker.

“Perfect,” India said with a smirk.

Lana Addison, you wanted a war, you got one. India takes no prisoners.

“Lana,” India said, a fake smile on her face as she approached her. “Can we chat? It’s very important.”

Lana rolled her eyes. “If we must.”

“Oh, we must. You see, it’s come to my attention that you and Bella James has a vendetta against me. Well, it’s not wise to pick a fight with me because I fight dirty.”

“What are you getting at, India?” Lana asked, shoving her biology textbook into her locker.

“It would be a shame if Bella were to turn her back on the alliance and join with little ‘ole me to take you down. Which, might happen if she were to find out that you and Hallie were spotted getting very cozy yesterday in the hallway.”

“What are you talking about?” Lana asked, trying to play it off.

“I saw you,” India whispered. “And just think, now I have power over you. Really makes you regret throwing that slushie in my face, doesn’t it? By the way, I hate strawberry.”

“What do you want then, India?” Lana asked.

“I’ll think of something,” India replied. “But until then, just remember: I can destroy you. Mess with me and I will.”

India winked as she clicked her tongue before turning and walking off. Lana sighed heavily as she shut her locker.

Will stood in front the dry erase board, waiting for all of New Directions to take their seats. He turned around and started to write on the board.

DUETS DEUX

Kevin raised his hand. “What’s a dee-ooks?”

Will smiled. “No. It’s French. It’s pronounced essentially ‘du’ and it means ‘two.’ Sectionals is right around the corner and The Femme Fatales are serious competition. If we want to beat them, we have to work hard. So, I thought I’d have another competition since you love my other ones so much. This time, it’s a sequel to my original duets competition, with a twist.”

“What kind of twist?’” Honey asked.

“Glad you asked,” Will said. “In this hat, I have the your names. I will draw you one at a time and I will assign you a duet partner based on how well I think you would fit together. But, it will not be any of the other Glee Club members.”

“Then who will they be?” Nicole asked.

“I’d prefer to show you,” Will said, drawing a name from the hat. “Breezy, you’re up first. Outside the classroom door, lies your duets partner. For you, I choose a member who’s time in Glee Club was short but she commanded attention just like you, Breezy. Lauren Zizes!”

The classroom door opened and Lauren charged in, playing up to the applause. Lauren walked over and took a seat beside Breezy.

“Wait,” Jaxon said. “We’re doing duets with past members of Glee Club?”

Will smiled. “We are.”

“It’s like Star Trek Generations,” Nicole said.

“Okay,” Will said, drawing another name out of the hat. “James. You will doing a duet with Blaine Anderson.”

Blaine opened the door and walked into the choir room. He shook James’ hand and took a seat beside him.

Will drew another name. “India Wilson, you’re paired with Sugar Motta.”

Sugar walked into the room, followed by a camera crew.

“Uh, what’s going on?” Evan asked. “Why all the cameras?”

“For those of you who didn’t know, I married a rich casino owner and moved to Vegas, where I became the star of The Real Housewives of Vegas,” Sugar said “They’re following me on my trip back to Lima, Ohio. Which means, you’re all gonna be on TV!”

Before long, every member of New Directions had been paired up. Honey and Rachel, Miles and Finn, Nicole and Tina, Lucas and Kurt, Bella and Mercedes, Evan and Artie, Hallie and Quinn, Jaxon and Brittany, Kevin and Mike, Aldy and Puck, Breezy and Lauren, James and Blaine, India and Sugar, and Rose and Rory.

“Well,” Will said, looking at Santana and Sam. “Guess you’re the odd ones out.”

“It’s okay,” Santana said. “I would have wiped the floor with all of them anyway.”

“Alright, I don’t need to remind you guys what is at stake here,” Will said. “A solo at Sectionals. You want that, you need to bring it hard because I can guarantee you that Sue is gonna bring it harder when it comes to winning Sectionals.”

____________________________________________________________

Sue sat at her table in the gym, watching Adam stumble through the choreography. With a frown, she reached for her megaphone.

“That was horrendous! It was like watching Resident Evil: The Musical, which would be great if I was staging a zombie musical. But, this is for Sectionals!”

Adam sighed. “Sorry, Coach.”

“Lana, show your little gay elf friend how those moves are really done.”

Adam looked at Sue confused.

“Okay, just remember, loosen up,” Lana said. “Shoulders back, then pivot. Got it?”

“Yeah,” Adam said.

Lana brushed her bangs out of her eyes as she walked over to Sue. She put her hands on her hips, looking down at her.

“My friend, Miles, tells me that Mr. Schue is doing a duets competition. It sounds really fun. We don’t ever do anything like that. This is like a chow choir sweat shop.”

“So?” Sue asked, looking over her glasses.

“Well, he’s pairing them with past members of New Directions and Santana and Sam were the odd ones out. I want that duet with Santana and Adam wants the one with Sam. Why can’t we bury the proverbial hatchet for one day and just have fun?”

Sue looked at Lana for a second. “You think you can beat them?”

“I know I can,” Lana said. “Just give me a chance.”

“Okay,” Sue said. “I will talk to Will and see what I can do. But I want you to win this competition and dash their hopes. I will not be beaten at Sectionals. Losing at Regionals was bad enough. Sectionals is child’s play.”

“I don’t plan to let you down,” Lana said.

The April Rhodes Civic Pavilion was bursting with dancing pink and purple lasers as New Directions sat in the seats, waiting for the first performance to begin.

India and Sugar took the stage as the music began, dressed in nearly identical shimmery silver jumpsuits, bedazzled with metal pieces and Swarovski crystals. India wore a pair of crystal studded 6 inch Louboutins and Sugar wore silver ballet flats.

“Wow,” Kevin said. “It’s like gay Star Wars!”

Will’s mouth fell open. Rose chuckled as she leaned in toward Nicole.

“Never a dull moment in the spectacle that is India Wilson,” Rose said.

“Be nice, guys,” Aldy said. “It’s art.”

“India’s idea of art peaks out at a coloring book,” Nicole said. “This is--”

“Weird?” Honey suggested.

“We’ll go with that,” Nicole replied.

“I'm not cocky,” India sang, her hands on her hips. “I just love myself!”

“Oh dear lord,” Jaxon said. “No good can come of this. Ever.”

“Mirror, mirror on the wall,” India sang. “Who's the flyest bitch of them all? Never mind, I am.”

“That bitch is so freaking pretty,” Sugar sang.

“Yeah, I am.”

“If I were her I would kiss me,” Sugar sang, blowing a kiss.

“Mirror, mirror on the wall,”India sang. “Hit up prince charming, tell him give me a call. Never mind, screw him. ‘Cause I found somebody better. Never mind, screw him. I'll make myself so much better.”

“Better, better, better,” Sugar sang.

“Every day I see myself I love me even more,” India sang.

“It's me I adore,” Sugar sang.

“Ain't nobody got nothin’ on me, I'm the best for sure.”

“My Cherie amour.”

“V is for vanity,” India and Sugar sang. “Every time I look at me, I turn myself on, yeah. I turn myself on, yeah. V is for vanity. Thank you, mom and daddy ‘cause I turn myself on, yeah. I turn myself on. Get into it.”

“Mirror, mirror on the wall,” India sang. “Who's the sexiest of them all? Never mind, I am, I am.”

“Oh, she's so hot and sexy,” Sugar sang.

“Yeah I am, that's right.”

“No-no-no wonder she's cocky.”

“Mirror, mirror on the wall,” India sang. “They call me stuck up, but I'm not at all. Never mind, I am, I am. It's not my fault I'm the Queen. Yeah I am and I'm a badass bitch. Every day I see myself I love me even more.”

“It's me I adore,” Sugar sang.

“Ain't nobody got nothing on me, I'm the best for sure.”

“Are you ready for me?”

“V is for vanity,” India and Sugar sang. “Every time I look at me, I turn myself on, yeah. I turn myself on, yeah. V is for vanity. Thank you, mom and daddy ‘cause I turn myself on, yeah. I turn myself on. Get into it. No regrets, get into it. No apologies.

“All the girls say ‘yeah I'm vain, so what, so what?’” India sang. “All the boys say yeah I'm vain, so what, so what?’ All the girls say ‘yeah we're vain, so what, so what?’ Everybody say ‘yeah we're vain, so what and what, whoo!”

“V is for vanity,” India and Sugar sang. “Every time I look at me, I turn myself on, yeah. I turn myself on, yeah. V is for vanity. Thank you, mom and daddy ‘cause I turn myself on, yeah. I turn myself on. Get into it

“If the shoe fits, wear it bitch,” Sugar sang as India put her hands on her hips and did a model walk, showcasing her shoes. “If the shoe fits, wear it bitch. If the shoe fits, wear it bitch.”

“Read my lips,” India sang.

“Muah!” Sugar said.

“I'm a vain girl,” India sang.

“Hey! He-ey,” Sugar sang.

“Can't love no one else, love yourself,” India rapped. “And if they don't like it, tell 'em ‘get in line and kiss your ass.’ Muah! Love you baby. Au revior. That's right. Let's go out like this.”

India walked over and grabbed a floor mirror by the sides. She looked into and began to dance as she continued to sing.

“Mirror mirror on the wall,” India sang. “Who's the flyest of them all? It's me, bow down, get on your knees. Where's my queens? Who reigns supreme? Let me hear you scream Whooo!”

“And the legacy lives on,” Sugar sang. “Going strong.”

“Let us not forget,” India sang. “Who owns the throne?”

“You do India,” Sugar said.

Will looked perplexed, but in good sportsmanship, clapped anyway. The rest of New Directions followed.

“I think I lost a few brain cells,” Rose said.

“That was, interesting, India,” Will said. “However, I’m a little concerned over how blatantly sexual your last performances have been.”

“It’s not on purpose, Mr. Schue,” India said. “I’m still a virgin for crying out loud.”

The gasps in the audience were audible.

“I didn’t see that one coming,” Honey said to Nicole. Nicole nodded in agreement.

“Why is that so hard to believe?” India asked.

“Perhaps the way you present yourself,” Will suggested.

India rolled her eyes. “Figures.”

“Excuse me?” Lana asked as she walked into the auditorium, followed by Sue, Adam, Natasha, and two girls that no one seemed to recognize. “Mr. Schue? We heard about your competition and we’d like to participate.”

“Sorry,” Will said. “This competition is for New Directions only.”

“May I say something, William?” Sue said. “That’s kind of unfair of you to say seeing as you’re always walking around trying to promote a message of inclusion. Lana wishes to join in with her friends. There’s no hidden agendas, plans to sabotage you, none of that.”

“Come on, Mr. Schue,” Miles said. “We accepted her into New Directions before she left. Lana is practically one of us.”

Will sighed. “Okay. Fine, Lana, your partner will be Santana Lopez. Adam, you can partner with Sam Evans. As for the rest of you, I’m out of partners. You’ll just have to watch.”

“We’re down with that,” the taller girl with mocha colored skin said. “We’ll just root for Lana.”

“Thanks, Karina,” Lana said.

“Well, have a seat,” Will said. “Bella and Mercedes are up next.”

Lana looked disgusted at the mere mention of Bella’s name as she took her seat, Adam and Natasha sitting beside her.

Bella and Mercedes walked out on stage, dressed in knee length black dresses. Mercedes took her place behind her microphone, looking out into the crowd.

“Ran into an old friend yesterday,” Mercedes sang. “Caught me by surprise when he called my name. He was a familiar face, from a chapter in my past. Talked for a while, asked him how it's been. Said that he was seeing somebody and told me this was gonna last, showing me her photograph.”

“And all the feelings that I thought were gone,”Bella sang, taking hold of her microphone stand. “Came rushing back to me at once. Tried to smile and hide the way I felt, but I was thinking to myself.”

“Truth is, I never got over you,” they both sang. “Truth is, wish I was standing in her shoes. Truth is, and when it's all said and done, guess I’m still in love with you. Truth is, I never should have let you go. Truth is, and it's killing me cuz now I know. Truth is, and when it's all said and done, guess I’m still in love with you.”

“We reminisced on the way things used to be,” Bella sang, swaying slowly to the beat. “Shared a couple laughs, shared some memories. Talked about the things that changed, some for good and some for bad. Then he said good-bye and he paid for lunch. Promised that we'd always keep in touch. Grabbed my bags and grabbed my thoughts, walked away and that was that.”

“And all the feelings that I thought were gone,”Mercedes sang, taking hold of her microphone stand.

“Now the truth is it hurts but I know that the fault is mine ‘cuz I let him go,”Bella sang. “Tried to get over it but it's messin' with my mind because I know.”

“Truth is, I never got over you,” they both sang. “Truth is, wish I was standing in her shoes. Truth is, and when it's all said and done, guess I’m still in love with you. Truth is, I never should have let you go. Truth is, and it's killing me cuz now I know. Truth is, and when it's all said and done, guess I’m still in love with you. Truth is, I never got over you. Truth is, wish I was standing in her shoes. Truth is, and when it's all said and done, guess I’m still in love with you. Truth is, I never should have let you go. Truth is, and it's killing me cuz now I know. Truth is, and when it's all said and done, guess I’m still in love with you.”

“I just gotta be honest,” Mercedes sang. “I guess, I-I guess, I’m still in love, in love, in love.”

Everyone stood up and applauded, except Hallie, who remained in her seat, looking as if she had just been punched in the gut.

____________________________________________________________

Lana swallowed her fears as she quickened her pace to catch up with Hallie.

“Hallie? Can we talk?”

Hallie turned around to face Lana, a smile on her face. She shyly pushed a curl out of her face and tucked it behind her ear.

“I can see that what Bella sang hurt you,” Lana said.

“I know that song was to Miles. I can see it, you know? She’s not over him.”

“You are an amazing person, Hallie and anyone would be lucky to have you. If Bella can’t see that, she’s foolish.”

Hallie smiled. “Bella’s a great friend. Sometimes I think perhaps we work best that way. I love her with all my heart, but there is only so much love I can pour in without having it return before my heart runs dry.”

“Don’t lose your heart,” Lana said. “It’s precious. After all, we only get one. We have to treat it with care.”

Hallie held her head down. “You fill me with so much confusion. When you kissed me, I liked it and I saw fireworks. I shouldn’t feel the way I do about you.”

“And how do you feel about me?” Lana asked.

“Like maybe it would be easier if I were with you. That I wouldn’t mind another kiss. But I can’t do that because it would be wrong. One kiss is an accident, but two isn’t.”

“Was our kiss an accident?”

Hallie shrugged. “Well, an accident implies that it was wrong. And while the fact that I’m seeing Bella means, yes it was wrong, the fact that I saw fireworks means that it was right. I’m waging an internal war, here.”

“Well, I’m here for you, no matter the outcome,” Lana said.

Hallie smiled sweetly. “Thanks, Lana. Well, I gotta go. See you later.”

Lana waved as she watched Hallie walk away.

“Couldn’t stay away?” India asked, joining Lana. “Thought you might steal another kiss?”

“It’s not like that, India. You have no idea what it’s really about.”

“Remember, Lana that Hallie is my friend. Even after the whole Cheerios ordeal, which we managed to work out. Bella and Hallie is what’s right. You and Hallie are absolutely wrong and I won’t have you mess this up.”

“What’s your deal anyway, India?” Lana asked, crossing her arms.

“Remember, I have power over you. Keep in line or I’ll tell Bella everything.”

“You have no power over me, India! I’m not one of your gullible little lackeys! I refuse to bow down to you and worship the ground you walk on! I’ll tell Bella myself because I’m not afraid of her and I’m not afraid of you.”

India scowled as Lana shook her head and turned around, walking away.

____________________________________________________________

Bella looked at Lana, in shock, unable to form words. Lana looked back, hoping Bella would finally say something.

“You kissed Hallie?” Bella asked.

“Yes. Hallie was innocent. I practically pushed myself on her. She loves you, a lot. Though frankly, I can’t understand why. The indecision in your heart, the way you play with her, lead her on, string her along. She deserves better.”

“You have no right to say that,” Bella said.

“When she’s needed you, you haven’t been there for her.”

“Yes, I have!”

“Like when you left her after John died? Just left her alone to cope with losing one of her best friends? I was there for her, Bella.”

“She told me to go,” Bella replied.

“And do you think she means everything she says? She needed you and you abandoned her. So do whatever you wanna do, Bella. Punch me, kick me, slap me…whatever makes you feel better about what I did. But if it takes every last breath in my body, Hallie will realize that she deserves better.”\

"Why do you hate me?" Bella asked. "What did I ever do to you?"

“I don’t hate you. I mean, at first I envied you. But then I saw how Hallie is left feeling because of you and I wondered how anyone could have someone as beautiful and sweet as Hallie and treat her like that. And that’s when the envy turned into contempt.”

Bella shook her head. “Hallie is mine. I’m the one she loves.”

Bella slammed her locker and stormed off.

The next day, Will decided to hold the second round of “Duets Deux” in the choir room. Variety was key. Miles and Finn sat on stools in the front of the classroom. Finn was playing guitar.

“This is a song for my friend, Lana,” Miles said.

Lana smiled warmly at Miles.

“You had a lot of crooks tryna steal your heart,” Miles and Finn sang. “Never really had luck, couldn't never figure out how to love, how to love. You had a lot of moments that didn't last forever. Now you in a corner tryna put it together. How to love, how to love. For a second you were here, now you over there. It's hard not to stare; the way you moving your body, like you never had a love, never had a love.”

“When you is just a young'un your looks but so precious,” Miles sang. “But now you're grown up, so fly it's like a blessing. But you can't have a man look at you for five seconds without you being insecure. You never credit yourself so when you got older, it seems like you came back ten times over. Now you're sitting here in this damn corner looking through all your thoughts and looking over your shoulder.”

“You had a lot of dreams that transform to visions,” Finn sang. “The fact that you saw the world affected all your decisions. But it wasn't your fault, wasn't in your intentions. You the one here talking to me, you don't wanna listen But I admire your poppin' collars and pimpin' just as much as you admire bartending and stripping. Baby, so don't be mad, nobody else trippin'. You seen a lot of crooks and crooks still crook.”

“You had a lot of crooks tryna steal your heart,” Miles and Finn sang. “Never really had luck, couldn't never figure out how to love, how to love. You had a lot of moments that didn't last forever. Now you in a corner tryna put it together. How to love, how to love.

“See I just want you to know that you deserve the best,” Miles sang. “You're beautiful, you're beautiful. Yeah, and I want you to know. You're far from the usual, far from the usual.”

Miles shared a fleeting glance at Breezy as their eyes met, they smiled.

“You had a lot of crooks tryna steal your heart,” Miles and Finn sang. “Never really had luck, couldn't never figure out how to love, how to love. You had a lot of moments that didn't last forever. Lucas stood in the hallway, earbuds in, listening to the song that he and Kurt were gonna sing. Evan stopped when he saw Lucas and smiled at him.

“Good luck,” Evan said.

“I’m so nervous. I have no idea what I’m gonna do. I keep thinking that I will forget the words or something,” Lucas said.

Evan smiled. “You are gonna go out there and you’re gonna be great. You’re gonna sing your heart out, win this competition, and we’ll celebrate at BreadstiX, just the two of us.”

Lucas blushed. “You make me feel like I can do anything.”

“You can do anything, Lucas. You just have to put your mind to it.”

Lucas smiled. “Thanks, Evan.”

Evan put his hands on Lucas’ shoulders. “Show everyone what you’ve got. Show them what made me fall in love with you.”

Lucas was taken by surprise. “What?”

Evan smiled. “I love you, Lucas.”

Lucas laughed. “Oh my god! Evan--”

Evan took Lucas’ hand got down on one knee. Still holding Lucas’ hand, he looked up at him. “Would you do me honor of being my boyfriend?”

Lucas shook his head, embarrassed and shaking. “Yes! Yes, I would.”

Evan jumped up and swept Lucas into his arms and kissed his lips.

Back in the choir room, Lucas and Kurt took their bows to the applause. Will looked around the room.

“Who’s going next?” Will asked.

Honey and Rachel’s hands both shot up at the same time.

“Okay, then,” Will said. “The overly eager duo of Honey and Rachel it is. Come on up.”

Rachel and Honey smiled from ear to ear as they jumped out of their seats and hurried to the front of the room.

“We’re going to sing a really fun song about sisterhood,” Rachel said.

“Alright,” Will said. “Let’s hear it.”

“Hey girl, it's me, just called to tell you hi,” Rachel sang. “Call me when you get this. Haven't talked lately, so hard to find the time. Give the boys a big kiss. Tell them that I miss them. By the way, I miss you too.”

“I was thinking just today,”Rachel and Honey sang. “About how we used to play Barbie dolls and makeup, tea parties, dress up. I remember how we'd fight and make up and laugh all night. Wish we were kids again. My sister, my friend.”

“Oh yeah before I forget I met someone,” Honey sang. “I think I really like him. I was just wondering if I'm jumping the gun by going out on a limb and invite him home for Christmas to meet the family.”

“Seems like just yesterday,” they sang. “You brought home oh what's his name. He had been drinking, what were you thinking? After dinner he passed out, we can laugh about it now ‘cause we've learned a lot since then. My sister, my friend.”

“Do you think you could come and see me sometime soon?” Honey sang.

“See me sometime soon,” Rachel sang.

“We could just hang out like we used to,” Honey sang.

“It's late and I should go,” Rachel sang. “But I can't hang up the phone until I tell you what I don't tell you enough.”

“Even though at times it seemed,”Honey sang. “We were more like enemies. I'd do it all again.”

“My sister, my friend,” they both sang. “Oh, my sister, my friend.”

New Directions and the Femme Fatales clapped as Rachel gave her little sister a hug.

“We got this in the bag,” Rachel said.

Jaxon grabbed his backpack and headed toward the exit, but James stopped him.

“Jaxon,” James said. “I’m sorry I walked out on you the other day. I was really hurt because you seem to think Aldy is so attractive, and even though I don’t seem like it, I’m so insecure. After what you said to me, upon seeing your tattoo, I felt it was kind of hypocritical.”

“I know, James,” Jaxon said. “It was a big mistake and I shouldn’t have done it. I was just wanting to be edgy and a little dangerous, too. I’m Jaxon, the nice guy. There is nothing cool about that.”

“It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. It just matters what I think. I know you’re attracted to Aldy’s bad boy image. And I’m sorry but I’m not about to get rid of mine. I want you to see in me the same thing you see in Aldy.”

“Aldy’s straight, James. You’re making mountains out of molehills.”

“I’m just changing things up,” James said. “I’m as bad as I wanna be.”

James grabbed his books off the chair next to him and walked out the door.

“James?” Blaine said, running to catch up with him. “I couldn’t help but overhear. And noticing your new look, I just wanted to tell you something. Stop pretending to be somebody you’re not just to impress someone who already loves you for who you are.”

“Why do you care?” James asked.

“I care because I see a young me in you. I see you dressed up in leather and denim and I can’t help but think you look so lost like that. Jaxon loves you for who you are.”

“Who am I, then?” James asked.

“The sporty prep with a slight feminine side,” Blaine said. “When Jaxon’s with you, it’s obvious that he loves you. Don’t change a bit for anyone.”

James smiled as tears welled up in his eyes. “Thanks, Blaine.”

“You’re welcome. Now, let’s go practice our number for tomorrow.”

____________________________________________________________

The next day, James and Blaine took the stage in the April Rhodes Civic Pavilion. Jaxon looked back at James, smiling.

“La la la la la,” James sang. “La la na na na. La la la la la. La la na na na.”

“Boy, I've been all over the world looking for you,” Blaine sang. “I'm known for taking what I think I deserve and you're overdue. And if you listen you can hear me through the radio in that bright white noise. What I been missing in my life, what I been dreaming of. You'll be that girl, you'll be that girl, you'll be.”

“Everything you want so let me get up there,” James sang. “I'm the baddest baby in the atmosphere. Tell me what you want so we can do just what you like.”

“You make me feel that la la la la la,”Blaine and James sang. “You make me feel so la la la la la. You make me feel that la la la la la. You make me feel so la la la la la. You, you make me feel that.”

“Get a little closer to me, boy and you'll understand,” James sang, “'Cause if you want a guy that knows what you need well, then I'm your man. And if you listen you can hear me through the radio in that bright white noise. What I been missing in my life, what I been dreaming of. You'll be that girl, you'll be that girl, you'll be.”

“Everything you want so let me get up there,” Blaine sang. “I'm the baddest baby in the atmosphere. Tell me what you want so we can do just what you like.”

“Ooh,” James sang. “Everything you know I'm flipping upside down. Take you 'round the world. You know I like it loud. Tell me what you want 'cause we can do just what you like.”

“You make me feel that la la la la la,”Blaine and James sang. “You make me feel so la la la la la. You make me feel that la la la la la. You make me feel so la la la la la. You make me feel, oh, la la la la la. You make me feel that la la la la la. You make me feel so la la la la la. You make me feel, oh, la la la la la.”

“Put your hands up,” James sang. “Put your hands up, let the lights drop. Let the lights drop, make my world stop, make my world stop.”

“La la la la la,” they both sang. “La la na na na. You make me feel that la la la la la. You make me feel so la la la la la. You make me feel that la la la la la. You make me feel so La la la la la. You make me feel, oh, la la la la la. You make me feel that la la la la la. You make me feel so la la la la la. You make me feel that la la la la la.”

Will lead the applause as he stood up from his seat. “Great job.”

“Thanks, Mr. Schue,” James said as he took his seat beside Jaxon. Jaxon looked at him and smiled warmly.

“Who’s next?” Will asked.

Nicole raised her hand. “I would like to go if that’s okay, Mr. Schue.”

“Wow,” Will said. “I’m not used to you being so eager to perform. Sure, Nicole.”

Nicole and Tina stared at each other and smiled as they got up and headed toward the stage.

“We’re going to sing a favorite song for both of us,” Tina said. “Nicole was really passionate about this song, and I must say I was too.”

The music began and Nicole began to sway in front of the microphone to the music

“Head under water,” Nicole sang. “And they tell me to breathe easy for a while. The breathing gets harder, even I know that. Made room for me but it's too soon to see if I'm happy in your hands.”

“I'm unusually hard to hold on to,” Tina sang. “Blank stares at blank pages. No easy way to say this. You mean well, but you make this hard on me.”

“I'm not gonna write you a love song,”Nicole and Tina sang. “‘Cause you asked for it, 'cause you need one, you see. I'm not gonna write you a love song 'cause you tell me it's make or break in this. If you're on your way, I'm not gonna write you to stay. If all you have is leaving, I'm gonna need a better reason to write you a love song today.”

“I learned the hard way that they all say things you want to hear,” Tina sang. “And my heavy heart sinks deep down under you and your twisted words. Your help just hurts. You are not what I thought you were.”

“Hello to high and dry,”Nicole sang. “Convinced me to please you. Made me think that I need this too. I'm trying to let you hear me as I am.”

“Promise me that you'll leave the light on,” Nicole sang. “To help me see with daylight, my guide, gone 'cause I believe there's a way you can love me. Because I say I won't write you a love song 'cause you asked for it, 'cause you need one, you see.”

“I'm not gonna write you a love song,”Nicole and Tina sang. “‘Cause you asked for it, 'cause you need one, you see. I'm not gonna write you a love song 'cause you tell me it's make or break in this. If you're on your way, I'm not gonna write you to stay. If your heart is nowhere in it, I don't want it for a minute. Babe, I'll walk the seven seas when I believe that there's a reason to write you a love song today.”

Everyone clapped as Tina and Nicole took their bows. Tina walked over to Nicole a gave her a hug.

“Good job, girly,” Tina said, smiling.

Hallie sat down in the courtyard beside Bella. Bella didn’t look up. Hallie sighed as she adjusted the bracelet on her arm.

“I know kissing Lana was wrong,” Hallie said. “It just happened.”

“Hallie, if you feel like I’m such a bad girlfriend, then why didn’t you say something?” Bella asked.

“That’s not what I think,” Hallie replied. “But sometimes, it makes me wonder if you love me as much as I love you.”

“What do you mean?” Bella asked. “Of course I love you.”

“When I was upset over John’s death, I needed you. I said I didn’t because I was trying to be tough, but the truth is, I needed you. And you left me there alone.”

“Because you told me to,” Bella.

“But I’m your girlfriend, Bella. You should know when I say something I don’t me. You should have insisted on staying there. I wanted you to refuse to leave me, make me feel like I was more important. And you just left.”

“Hallie, I’m sorry.”

“And Lana was there for me when you weren’t.”

“Is that why you feel about her like you do?”

Hallie shrugged. “When we kiss, do you see fireworks?”

“I’ve never really thought about it,” Bella replied.

“I don’t, Bella. And that scares me. The fireworks should be there but they aren’t.”

Hallie stood up and slinging her backpack over her shoulders, she walked off and left Bella alone in the courtyard.

How does it feel? Hallie thought.

Hallie and Quinn sat on stools in the choir room. Hallie adjusted her microphone as her gaze switched from Bella, to Lana, and finally back to Bella.

“This song is dedicated to Eva and Ethan,” Hallie said.

“And to Beth and Puck Jr, also,” Quinn said.

Soft country music began to play as Lana and Bella exchanged angry looks.

“Six pounds and nine ounces looking up at me,” Quinn sang. “Like I have all the answers, I hope I have the ones you need. I've never really done this, now I know what scared is.”

“Sometimes I'll protect you from everything that's wrong,” Hallie sang. “Other times I'll let you just find out on your own but that's when you'll be growing, and the whole time I'll be knowing.”

“You're gonna fly with every dream you chase,” Quinn and Hallie sang. “You're gonna cry, but know that that's okay. Sometimes life's not fair, but if you hang in there, you're gonna see that sometimes bad is good. We just have to believe things work out like they should. Life has no guarantees, but always loved by me, you're gonna be.”

“I'm afraid you'll have to suffer through some of my mistakes,” Quinn sang. “Lord knows I'll be trying to give you what it takes. What it takes to know the difference between getting by and living.”

“‘Cause anything worth doing is worth doing all the way,”Hallie sang. “Just know you'll have to live with all the choices that you make. So make sure you're always giving way more than you're taking.”

“Someone's everything,” Hallie sang. “You're gonna see just what you are to me.”

Quinn took Hallie’s hand and held it as she gave Hallie a smile.

“Let’s hear it for the single, teenage mothers,” Quinn said. “No one works as hard as they do.”

Everyone clapped as Hallie and Quinn returned to the chairs.

“Well, I believe we have just one more duet,” Will said. “Lana Addison and Santana Lopez.”

“Well,” Santana said as she walked to the front of the room. “I refused to sing this song during the original duets competition, but since things are different, we’re gonna sing it this year.”

“This song is dedicated to someone special,” Lana said as she took her place behind her microphone stand.

“Come to my window,” Lana and Santana sang. “Crawl inside, wait by the light of the moon. Come to my window, I'll be home soon.”

“I would dial the numbers just to listen to your breath,” Lana sang. “I would stand inside my hell and hold the hand of death. You don't know how far I'd go to ease this precious ache. You don't know how much I'd give or how much I can take.”

“Just to reach you,”Santana sang. “Just to reach you, just to reach you.”

“Come to my window,” Lana and Santana sang. “Crawl inside, wait by the light of the moon. Come to my window, I'll be home soon.”

“Keeping my eyes open,” Santana sang, looking at Brittany. “I cannot afford to sleep. Giving away promises I know that I can't keep. Nothing fills the blackness that has seeped into my chest. I need you in my blood, I am forsaking all the rest.”

“Just to reach you,”Lana sang. “Just to reach you, just to reach you.”

“Come to my window,” Lana and Santana sang. “Crawl inside, wait by the light of the moon. Come to my window, I'll be home soon.”

“I don't care what they think,” Lana sang. “I don't care what they say. What do they know about this love anyway?”

“Come to my window,” Lana and Santana sang. “Crawl inside, wait by the light of the moon. Come to my window, I'll be home soon.”

“Oh come on,” India said. “We all know that song was dedicated to Hallie. Bella, did you hear that, she’s dedicating a song to your girlfriend.”

“Butt out, India,” Lana said. “It’s none of your business!”

“Leave her alone, huh?” Aldy said.

“And by the way,” India said. “I didn’t see you two kiss. I made it up. Then you admitted everything to me. Way to go, Lana. See, you have one to blame but yourself.”

Lana started toward India, but Santana grabbed her and held her back.

“How dare you!” Lana said.

“I told you that you would regret throwing that slushie in my face. You think just because you ruined my plans that I would take it lying down? India Wilson always has an ace up her sleeve.”

Hallie looked at India. “You were supposed to be my friend, India.”

“She’s not right for you,” India insisted. “Don’t you see? You and Bella are meant to be together!”

“You have no right telling me should I should be with,” Hallie said.

“Well then,” India said, standing up. “I have to go talk with Coach Sylvester.”

“Why? What for?” Will asked.

“You know the old saying,” India said. “If you have an enemy and you can’t beat them, join them.”

Lana raised an eyebrow, still held back by Santana. “What are you saying.”

“I quit New Directions. I’m joining the Femme Fatales. Everyone here hates me anyway.”

India walked out of the choir room, leaving everyone stunned as the click of her heels echoed down the hallway.
