Glee: The Next Generation Episode 7: My Boyfriend's Back...Maybe?Edit

As everyone piled into the choir room, India couldn’t help but to smile from ear to ear. Today meant that her one week suspension from the Cheerios was up. She’d be returning to the squad, fresh and invigorated, even if she did have to see Rose and Hallie there. But most importantly, it meant that Evan would be returning. Of course, she hadn’t seen Evan all day. He had been pretty busy with Bullywhips duty and he had skipped Glee Club to talk to Mrs. Pillsbury.

“Okay,” Will said, walking into the room. “We need to start preparing for Sectionals, so I want you guys brainstorming for ideas for our setlist. Also, Vocal Adrenaline’s Invitationals is tonight. Now, I can’t make it because I have plans to attend Kurt’s production of Wicked with Emma, but if any of you can make it down there to check out the competition, I encourage it.”

Honey raised her hand. “Have you decided which two members will be doing the duet for Sectionals?”

"Not yet. I think we should wait until we have some songs picked out. But I’m leaning toward Miles and Nicole. I think their voices sound really good together.”

“Oh,” Honey said, disappointed.

“Don’t worry, every one of the first six will get their solo in a duet as promised. It may not be right away, but don’t give up hope yet.”

“Well actually, Mr. Schue,” Honey continued, “I have some great ideas for staging and costumes for Sectionals.”

Will frowned slightly. “I really appreciate it, Honey, but I think for right now we should keep it simple. Focus on the songs and talent. But thanks anyway.” _____________________________________________________________________________________________

Honey walked solemnly toward the gymnasium. Nicole noticed her and picked up her pace to catch up.

“What’s up, Honey?”

“I just feel so unappreciated and dismissed in there today. I have an idea and Mr. Schuester doesn’t wanna even hear me out. But as soon as Jaxon, Bella, or even Miles has an idea, he’s all for it.”

“I kinda agree, Honey. No offense. But New Directions wasn’t flashy during Sectionals. They kept it simple and focused on the music. And besides, Jaxon and Bella are our captains. We took a vote and they won.”

“Popularity contest,” Honey said grumpily.“Honey, it isn’t like that. Believe me.”

“I should have known that you’d be just like everyone else. Do you know how hard it is to be Rachel Berry’s little sister? I’ve grown up in her shadow, never living up to the legacy she left behind. I’m invisible.”

“Honey, you’re not invisible. You’re just not as assertive as Rachel was.”

Honey stopped dead in her tracks. “I’m never as anything as Rachel. Well, I’m not gonna follow in her footsteps anymore. Glee Club was Rachel’s thing. I’m gonna find my own thing.”

“Wait, does this mean you’re quitting?”

Honey stormed off. “Take this dramatic exit as my resignation.”

Nicole sighed in frustration as she ran to catch up with the rest of New Directions.

“Guys,” she said. “We have a problem. Honey just quit Glee Club.”

“Why?” Jaxon asked, shocked.

“She said Mr. Schue only listens to your, Bella, and Miles’ ideas and her gets dismissed. Then something about living in Rachel’s shadow. She was never as anything as Rachel. And then she said Glee Club was Rachel’s thing and she was quitting to do her own thing.”

“This is a serious problem,” John said. “Honey has a very unique voice. She’s a major asset if we wanna make it to Nationals.”

“Look,” Jaxon said. “We promised Rose and Hallie that we’d be at Cheerios practice today to support them. We can’t break that promise to them.”

“But what about Honey?” Nicole asked. “If we don’t go and try to talk her into returning, she’ll think that we don’t care.”

“We can get Kurt to talk to her,” Bella said.

“Yeah, he knew Rachel really well. Maybe he can talk some sense into her,” Lucas said.

“I do remember him saying he had a later show tonight,” James said. “Maybe he’ll have the time to stop by and pay her a visit.”

Sue blew this whistle and the Cheerios fell into formation, India in the front.

“Ready?” India asked.

The Cheerios nodded.Sue pressed the play button on her boom box and music filled the football field.

“My boyfriend’s back and there’s gonna be trouble,”India sang.

“Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back,” the Cheerios sang.

“When you see him coming, better cut out on the double,” India sang.

“Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“You’ve been spreading lies that I was untrue.”

“Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“So look out now cause he’s comin’ after you.”

"Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“Hey, he knows that you’ve been tryin’, ” India and the Cheerios sang. “And he knows that you’ve been lyin’. ”

“He’s been gone for such a long time,” India sang.

“Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back,” the Cheerios sang.

“Now he’s back and things’ll be fine.”

“Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“You’re gonna be sorry you were ever born.”

“Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“’Cause he’s kinda big and he’s awful strong.”

“Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“Hey, he knows I wasn’t cheating,” India and the Cheerios sang. “And now you’re gonna get a beating. What made you think he’d believe all your lies? Wah-ooh, wah-ooh. You’re a big man now, but he’ll cut you down to size. Wah-ooh, wah-ooh.”

“My boyfriend’s back, he’s gonna save my reputation,” India sang.

“Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back,” the Cheerios sang.

“If I were you, I’d take a permanent vacation.”

“Hey la, hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“Yeah, my boyfriend’s back.”

“Hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“Look out now, my boyfriend’s back.”

“Hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“I could see him comin’.”

“Hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“So, you had better get a runnin’.”

“Hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“Alright now.”

“Hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.”

“Hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

“My boyfriend’s back now.”

“Hey la, my boyfriend’s back.”

The music ended and everyone struck their final pose. Sue lifted her megaphone.

“Everyone except India, Hallie, Susie, and Rose, that was sloppy! Somehow you have turned the Angels into the Demons because your attempt at the routine was a horror story!”

“Every time India opens her mouth, it gets more offensive,” Jaxon said.

Bella nodded. “We’ve been threatened in musical form. Duly noted.”

India walked down the hall, zeroed in on Evan, who was in his Bullywhips uniform.

“I mean it, Azimio. I better not catch you messing with anyone else again. Louis, you’re free to go.”

Azimio glared at Evan. “Man, you used to be cool.”

Azimio started to walk away, but Evan handed him a pink piece of paper.

“Don’t forget your detention slip.”

“You better hope my fists don’t 'slip' and bust your face,” Azimio said as he walked off.

India appeared beside Evan. “Hey, baby. Can we talk?”

“Perhaps later. This isn’t a good time. I’m on duty.”

“You were supposed to come watch me practice but you never showed.”

“I know. What part of I’m on duty do you not understand?”

“I understand that I am your girlfriend, Evan.”

“Actually, I was wanting to talk to you about that. India, it’s over.”

“What? Evan, what are you saying?”

“That we’re not dating anymore. I’m moving on. I can’t do this anymore.”

India scoffed. “What? You can’t just dump me. No one just dumps India Wilson.”

“I just did,” Evan said. “You’re toxic. You’re poison. You ruin everything you touch. You ruined me. I hated the person I became because of you. You turned me into a monster. I did bad things to people I care about because I let you control me and influence me like I was some kind of lap dog. I am not that person anymore. That person was an extension of you. So naturally, by cutting you out of my life, I’m cutting out that part of me. Being suspended opened my eyes. It was a wake-up call. Being a Bullywhip has helped me see the good in myself again. Trust me, you need to answer the phone when you get your wake-up call.”

Evan turned around and started down the hallway. India stood there, unable to move, watching him walk away from her.

“Look at me, look at me," He sang. "I am changing, trying every way I can. I am changing. I’ll be better than I am. I’m trying to find a way to understand. But I need you. I need you, I need a hand.”

Evan watched as most of New Directions walked down the adjoining hallway.

“I am changing, everything seems so clear. I am changing. I’m gonna start right here, right now. I’m hoping to work it out and I know I can. But I need you, I need a hand.”

Evan stopped walking and leaned up against the lockers. He looked up at the ceiling, overcome with emotion.

“All my life, I’ve been a fool. Who said I could do it alone? How many good friends have I already lost? How many dark nights have I known? Walking down that wrong road, there was nothing I could find. All those years of darkness, can male a person blind. But now I can see. I am changing, trying everyway I can. I am changing. I’ll be better than I am. But I need a friend to help me start all over again. Oh, that would be just fine. I know it’s gonna work out this time. ‘Cause this time I am, this time I am. I am changing. Gonna get my life together now. I am changing, yes I know how. I’m gonna start all over again. I’m leaving my past behind. I’ll change my life, I’ll make a vow. And nothing’s gonna stop me now.”

As Evan sang the last word, hitting the note, he felt the tears welling up in his eyes. He didn’t even notice Jaxon appearing beside him.

“Word in the halls has it you’ve dumped India,” Jaxon said.

“I couldn’t take anymore of her bad influence.”

“I get you, Evan. I do. You’re a hopeless romantic. You want so bad to be loved, you fall for everyone. You can’t handle rejection well. I get that. Also, you want so bad to fit in that you follow the crowd. And look where it got you. You’re one of the most popular boys in school. But India is not a crowd you want to follow.”

“I know that now. She changed me, Jaxon. I’m not like that. I promise. I’m working hard to make it up to you guys.”

Jaxon nodded. “I know. But one of the first steps is to maybe guard your heart a little. Then find out what the right crowds are to follow. And stop being so hard on yourself. You have a great voice and you’re a very good looking guy.”

“You think I’m good looking?”

“Yes,. but don’t read too much into that. I have a boyfriend as you’re well aware. Don’t let it drag back up those feelings. Perhaps I could have been more sensitive to you. I was kinda mean when I brushed you off. There isn’t nothing wrong with you per se. It was just kinda how stalkerish you came off as at first. I’m not gonna be impressed or wooed by anyone who is in love with me upon first meeting me. Maybe if you hadn’t came on so strong at first, I might have beem interested.”

“Yeah. Just, like I said, don’t think it means I’m gonna break up with James for you. Because I’m really in love with him and I wouldn’t do that. It’s just…you’re not so bad. So don’t be so hard on yourself. You made the first step to redeeming yourself. You broke away from India. Now, you just have to apologize to everyone and prove you have in fact, changed.”

“Does your eye still hurt?” Evan asked.

“Nah. It’s been a week. It did smart for a few days. You have a great right hook.”

Jaxon and Evan laughed.

“I’m sorry, Jaxon. And when I say that I’m changing, I mean it.”

“I know. Anyway, I gotta split. I have to meet James.”

“Bye,” Evan said, relieved to have gotten everything off his chest and to know that Jaxon had forgiven him.

James slung his backpack over his shoulders and began to walk down the stairs in the courtyard. When he heard someone call his name, he stopped and turned around.

“Archie?” James asked, going pale as if he had seen a ghost.

“Hi, James. I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t be here.”

“Then why are you?”

“I had to see you. I have something I wanted to say to you.”

“Look, Archie, I’ve moved on.”

“I know that. Just please hear me out.”

James crossed his arms. “How did you know where to find me?”

“I saw you perform at Invitationals. When I saw you with New Directions, I knew where I’d find you.”

“So when you were at Invitationals, was that Vocal Adrenaline spying on New Directions or was that you spying on me?”

“James, I had no idea where to find you until I saw you there. Mr. St. James brought me along to check out the competition. He sends his best.”

“I doubt that.”

“So, will you please hear me out?”

Archie walked over to the piano that sat in the courtyard and sat down on the bench. He began to play “Someone Like You” by Adele.

“I heard that you're settled down,” Archie sang. “That you found a boy and you're dating now. I heard that your dreams came true. Guess he gave you things I didn't give to you. Old friend, why are you so shy? Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.”

James looked down, his body language showing he was being to feel uncomfortable. He avoided looking at Archie.

“I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited. But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it. I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded that for me it isn't over. Never mind, I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too. Don't forget me, I beg. I remember you said, ‘sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead. Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,’ yeah. You know how the time flies. Only yesterday was the time of our lives. We were born and raised in a summer haze. Bound by the surprise of our glory days. I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited. But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it. I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded that for me it isn't over.”

James looked up and smiled slightly, pushing his bangs out of his eyes.

“Never mind, I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too. Don't forget me, I beg. I remember you said, ‘sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead'."

James took a seat beside Archie on the piano bench. Archie smiled at him.

“Nothing compares,” they both sang. “No worries or cares. Regrets and mistakes. They are memories made. Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?”

"Never mind, I'll find someone like you,” Archie sang as he looked at James. “I wish nothing but the best for you. Don't forget me, I beg. I remember you said, ‘sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead.’ Never mind, I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too. Don't forget me, I begI remember you said, ‘sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead. Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead'."

“Why now?” James asked, standing up.

“I realize that I did you wrong, James. I wanna make it up to you.”

“It’s too late, Archie. I’ve moved one. I’m with Jaxon now.”

“Is it fair to not give me a second chance?”

“Archie, you cheated on me. Then you lied to me about it. How am I supposed to feel about that?”

“I came clean about it,” Archie said.

"Only after I caught you in a lie. Then your solution was to try to talk me into having sex with you before I was ready. When I declined, you dumped me and trashed me on Facebook for being ‘a selfish, virginal prude,’ And I’m supposed to believe you when you come to me and sing that song to me.”

“I was hurt, James.”

“Nowhere near as hurt as I was! And I didn’t trash you in a public forum, either.”

“James, out of all the mistakes I’ve made, what I did to you was the worst. I’ve never forgiven myself. I do love you. I just need to prove it to you.”

James crossed his arms and shook his head. “Archie--”

“Please. Just do me one favor. And if you do it, it will let me know that there is a chance for us. Come see us at our Invitationals tonight.”

James nodded. “Okay. I’ll be there.”

Jaxon watched James and Archie from afar.

I feel like my heart is being ripped from my chest. James is my everything. I had never loved before. He was the first guy I truly loved, cared about. He was my soul mate. I know that deep in my heart. But I wasn’t James first love. Archie was. And Archie was gorgeous. How could I compete with that?

As Archie walked off, Jaxon started to walk down the steps, acting like he had just arrived.

“Hey,” Jaxon said.

James smiled as he gave Jaxon a hug.

“What's up?” Jaxon asked.

“I was talking to an old friend.”

“Oh? Who?”

“Someone you don’t know,” James said.

“Walk me to my car?” Jaxon asked.

“Sure,” James said, lacing his arm through Jaxon’s and walking back toward the parking lot.

Honey stood center stage, looking out into the empty seating. She grabbed the microphone and cued for one of the boys in the bad to turn on the spotlight. As the light sprang to life, she smiled.

“I’m a star,” she said softly to herself.

Honey gave the cue for the band to start playing.

“I was six years old when my parents went away,” Honey sang. “I was stuck inside a broken life I couldn’t wish away. She was beautiful, she had everything and more. And my escape was hiding out and running for the door. Somebody listen please, it used to be so hard being me. Living in the shadow of someone else’s dream. Trying to find a hand to hold, but every touch felt so cold to me. Living in a nightmare of never ending sleep. Now that I am wide awake, my chains are finally free. Don’t feel sorry for me.”

Honey took the microphone off the stand and walked down the steps, and into the aisles.

“All the days collided, one less perfect than the next. I was stuck inside someone else’s life and always second best. Oh, I love you now ‘cause I realize. That it’s safe outside to come alive in my identity.”

Honey walked up the stairs to the balcony. She leaned over onto the railing of the balcony, looking at the stage.

“So if you’re listening, there’s so much more to me you haven’t seen. Living in the shadow of someone else’s dream. Trying to find a hand to hold, but every touch felt so cold to me. Living in a nightmare of never ending sleep. Now that I am wide awake, my chains are finally free. Don’t feel sorry for me.”

Honey walked back down the stairs and into the aisles again, headed toward the stage.

“Mother, sister, father, sister, mother. Everything’s cool now. Mother, sister, father, sister, mother. Everything’s cool now. Oh, my life is good. I got more than anyone should. Oh, my life is good. And the past is in the past.”

Honey walked up the steps and back into the spotlight center stage. She put the microphone back on the stand.

“I was living in the shadow of someone else’s dream. Trying to find a hand to hold, but every touch felt so cold to me. I’m living in a new day, living it for me. And now that I am wide awake, yeah, I can finally be. Don’t feel sorry for me. Don’t feel sorry, don’t feel sorry for me. Don’t feel sorry, don’t feel sorry for me. Living in, living in, living in the shadow. Living in, living in, living in the shadow.”

The spotlight cut off, casting Honey into the shadows.

India and Rose sat eagerly in Sue Sylvester’s office. Sue finished making a protein shake, took a drink and held it toward India and Rose.

“Want some? Breakfast of Champions.”

India turned her nose up.

"No thanks, Coach,” Rose said.

“Ladies, after a hard fought battle between the two of that that I thoroughly enjoyed, I have finally came to a decision on who will be my new Cheerios Captain.”

“Who is it?” India asked.

“Now, Bangladesh, I’m still upset about you getting suspended from my team for a week. But, do you did prove yourself by catching up on a week’s worth of missed practices.”

“So I got it?” India asked.

“However,” Sue said. “Rose has worked hard since she joined the club and you’ve had two week experience on her. She has proven herself capable on catching up on missed time as well. You both are natural born leaders and fierce competitors. However, India, you’ve been nothing but trouble at this school since day one and it’s gotten you suspended from my squad, if that happens again after you became captain, I would find myself in quite a bind. That’s why I’ve decided that you two will be co-captains.”

“What?” India and Rose said in unison.

“Us work together?” Rose asked.

“I don’t co-captain,” India said.

“You wanna be on my squad, Uruguay, then you do as of now.”

India and Rose looked at each other and sighed. “All right coach,” Rose said.

“I guess it could be worse,” India agreed.

“Oh it could. If you fail me at Cheerleading Sectionals, then you will just how bad the wrath of Sue Sylvester can get. I’ve been known to put itching powder in my Cheerios’ uniforms right before making them practice the pyramid. You ever itched so bad and not been able to scratch? One false move and the whole squad tumbles down to their doom?” Sue asked, raising an eyebrow.

India and Rose gulped.

James and Jaxon walked into James’ bedroom. James threw his backpack on the bed and sat down on it. Jaxon sat beside him.

“I saw you with Archie today,” Jaxon said.

“He hunted me down. It’s not like I asked him to come by or anything,” James replied.

“I know that. I trust you, James. But I wanted to let you know that just because he sung you a beautiful song doesn’t mean he loves you.”

“I know, Jaxon. He and I are over.”

James replayed the events in his head of walking in to find Archie in the bed with another boy, gazing lovingly into his eyes. The other boy was blurry in his memory. He never got a good look at him because he could never focus on anything but a half naked Archie. In the bed. With someone that wasn’t him.

“I know that, but when you joined him to sing, I wondered if maybe he wasn’t swaying you just a little bit.”

“Of course not,” James said perhaps a bit too defensively, snapping back to reality.

“Since Archie got to sing his feelings to you, I thought I should get to, too. Since I am your boyfriend.”

“You don’t have to compete with him, Jaxon.”

“How could I compete with him? He’s gorgeous and has a beautiful voice.”

“That’s not all he is. He’s a heartbreaker. A player. He collects boys like they were trading stamps.”

“James, just please let me sing my song for you.”

James nodded. “Of course, baby.”

Jaxon put a CD in James’ stereo and pressed play. Queen’s “I Was Born To Love You” began to play. Jaxon took James’ hand and got down on his knees.

“I was born to love you. With every single beat of my heart. Yes, I was born to take care of you. Every single day, alright. Hey, hey. I was born to love you. With every single beat of my heart. Yes, I was born to take care of you. Every single day of my life. You are the one for me. I am the man for you. You we're made for me. You're my ecstasy. If I was given every opportunity. I'd kill for your love.”

James smiled his sly smile and then brushed his bangs away from his face.

“So take a chance with me. Let me romance with you. I'm caught in a dream. And my dream's come true. So hard to believe. This is happening to me. An amazing feeling. Comin' through.”

Jaxon stood up and pulled James up to join him. Jaxon began to dance with James, their hands intertwined.

“I wanna love you. I love every little thing about you. I wanna love you, love you, love you. Born to love you. Born to love you. Yes, I was born to love you. Born to love you. Born to love you. Every single day, day of my life. Woo!”

James laughed as he and Jaxon continued to dance.

“An amazing feeling, comin' through. I was born to love you. With every single beat of my heart. Yeah, I was born to take care of you. Every single day of my life. Yeah I was born to love you. Every single day of my life. Go, woo! I love you babe, hey. Born to love you. Yes, I was born to love you hey. I wanna love you, love you, love you. I wanna love you. Yeah, yeah.”

James laughed again.

“It’s magic!” Jaxon said.

James rolled his eyes, surprised at how sweet and romantic this all was, despite being so corny. He couldn’t remember the last time he had laughed so much.

“I get so lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, yeah,” Jaxon sang. “I want to love you. Love you, love you.”

Out of breath, James and Jaxon collapsed onto James’s bed, James in Jaxon’s arms. Jaxon looked down at the amazing boy in his arms and with a smile, he kissed the top of James’ head.

Kurt walked into the auditorium where Honey had just finished her song.

“Hello, Miss Berry.”

“How did you know where to find me?”

“You’re like Rachel. The stage is your home away from home.”

“What do you want?” Honey asked.

“I know you’re feeling underappreciated. And I know it must be hard living in the enormous shadow of Rachel Berry.”

“You have no idea.”

“Actually, I do have an idea. New Directions had to live in her shadow as well. Trust me, you may not be getting all the solos or living up to her legacy, but you are a very important part of New Directions. One day, you will get your day in the sun. And even if you aren’t singing a hundred solos a year like Rachel, it doesn’t mean she isn’t proud. She texts me all the time to tell me how proud she is of you. Didn’t she escort you to your audition? Did she not fly herself and Finn in to see you perform at Sectionals?”

“You are making her proud, Honey. And you’re making us proud. Everyone in that choir room loves you, accepts you, and wants you to be a part of the experience with them. Please, come back to New Directions. Be a part of something big, even if it’s only a small part at first. My biggest regret was leaving New Directions to go to Dalton. Other than meeting Blaine, it wasn’t that great. I missed my friends and my home. The moment I came back was the happiest moment of my life.”

“Do you think they’d take me back after I walked out on them?” Honey asked.

“Of course we would,” Breezy said from the balcony.

Kurt smiled as Honey looked up to see most of New Directions standing on the balcony.

“It’s not the same without you,” Miles said.

“Us girls need to stick together,” Rose said.

“I guess it’s not so bad with you in it,” India said.

Honey smiled. “Then I guess Honey Berry is back in New Directions!”

Jaxon and James walked into the theater. Vocal Adrenaline had already taken the stage to perform.

“Remind me why we’re here,” Jaxon said.

“I told him I’d be here. Plus, I want him to know where I stand.”

“And where do you stand?” Jaxon asked.

“I love you, Jaxon. But Archie was my first love. My feelings for him aren’t gonna disappear overnight. But, if I want to work on making them vanish, I have to assert that I am very happily in love with you. I have to show him I’ve moved on so he will, too.”

Jaxon nodded. “I don’t wanna lose you.”

“You’re not gonna loose me, Jaxon. You are my boyfriend. New Directions is my life. My friends. My family. Not Vocal Adrenaline. McKinley is my home.”

Jaxon leaned in and kissed James on the cheek. “I love you.”

James smiled, his blue eyes sparkling. “I love you, too. Forever.”

The audience applauded as Vocal Adrenaline finished the song. Archie walked front and center.

“Our final song is dedicated to a special someone out there. He’s the one who got away. This is for you, James.”

Archie looked directly as James. James stopped walking down the aisles as everyone turned to look at him, following Archie’s eyes. Jaxon grabbed James and pulled him to an empty seat.

“Don’t let it get to you,” Jaxon said.

“I can't win, I can't reign,” Archie sang. “I will never win this game without you, without you. I am lost, I am vain. I will never be the same without you, without you. I won't run, I won't fly. I will never make it by without you, without you. I can't rest, I can't fight. All I need is you and I.”

James looked over at Jaxon. “I want to go. Please.”

“I think we owe it to Mr. Schue to scope them out. I’m here with you, okay? He’s in your past. Don’t let him get to you.”

“Can't erase, so I'll take blame. But I can't accept that we're estranged."

"Without you, without you," Vocal Adrenaline sang. "I can't quit now, this can't be right. I can't take one more sleepless night without you, without you. I won't soar, I won't climb. If you're not here, I'm paralyzed. Without you, without you."

"I can't look, I'm so blind." Archie sang. "I lost my heart, I lost my mind without you.”

James jumped up from his seat and ran toward the door, everyone watching him. Jaxon followed after him. James threw the lobby door open and ran out into the pouring rain. Jaxon took his hoodie off.

“Put my jacket on, please. You’ll get sick.”

“What about you?” James asked.

“I don’t care about me.”

James held his arms out and Jaxon put his hoodie on him. James looked at Jaxon for a moment and the he started to cry. Jaxon grabbed him and held him tightly.

“Shh,” he said. “It’s okay. It’s okay.”

“I promised that I’d never cry. I don’t wanna be vulnerable.

”“It’s okay to cry, baby. I’m here. You have nothing to worry about. You’re in my arms, the one place where it’s okay to be yourself. If you wanna cry, then cry.”

“Why does he do this to me? I just want to get over the pain and he just keeps ripping the wounds open.”

“Don’t give him the power,” Jaxon said.

“It hurts so bad.”

“No matter what, I am here for you. I will always be here.”

James buried his face into Jaxon’s chest. Jaxon fought back tears, reminding himself that he had to be strong for James’ sake.

Beneath that mysterious, cool exterior he was just a fragile young man searching for love. And in these arms he had found it. But with new love comes the pain of old love. James had been through a lot with Archie and even though Archie had him crying, I knew it wasn’t because he loved him. It was because he didn’t love him. I knew James better than most. The reason why it hurt him so much is he knew that Archie was a selfish person. He knew he was a user, a liar, a cheater, and a con artist. He knew this because he had to learn it first hand, The wounds left by our first encounter with love and heartbreak never fully heal or leave us. And James was still hurting because this was all new. This was the first time he was forced to deal with it, because he had ran from all the pain of Carmel and Vocal Adrenaline. I was the band aid that would heal his wounds and make it all better.

And if I ever got Archie alone, I’d kick his ass. Just saying.

Jaxon held James tightly, rocking him in his arms.

“I was born to love you,” Jaxon sang. “With every single beat of my heart. I was born to take care of you. Every single day of my life.”

The next day in Glee Club, Evan walked into the room and no one cringed at the thought of him being there. He walked past India, who glared at him, and he took his seat beside Breezy.

“Hey, Breezy.”

Breezy smiled. “Hey, Evan. You look good this morning.”

“Mr. Schue?” Evan asked, raising his hand.“I was wanting to perform a song and I was needing everyone’s help. It’s my formal apology to everyone that I hurt. And I want to perform it with my new friends.”

Will smiled. “Sure, Evan.”

Evan stood up and walked to the front of the choir room. “I’m gonna start singing and if you guys want to, and if you all forgive me, please join in. It would mean a lot to me.”

Everyone nodded. Evan gave the cue to Brad, who began to play. The band joined in.

“Sometimes I’m a selfish fake,” Evan sang. “You’re always a true friend. And I don’t deserve you ‘cause I’m not there for you. Please forgive me again. I wanna be there for you. Someone you can come to. Runs deeper than my bones. I wanna be there for you. I wanna be there for you.”

“Swirling shades of blue slow dancing in your eyes,”Jaxon sang, looking in James eyes. He stood up and took James’ hand, leading him to join Evan.

“The sun kisses the Earth,” all three sang. “And I hush my urge to cry.”

“Cry,” Honey sang as she joined Evan, Jaxon, and James.

“I wanna be there for you,” all four sang.

“Someone you can come to,” Bella, Hallie, and Miles sang, joining the rest. “Runs deeper than my bones. I wanna be there for you."

“I wanna be there for you,” Rose, Nicole, and John sang, walking up to join the group.

“’Cause I hear the whispered words,”Kevin sang, joining in.

“In your masterpiece beautiful,” Breezy sang.

“You speak the unspeakable through,” Lucas sang as he walked to join the group.

“I love you too,” Jaxon sang, looking at James.

India uncrossed her arms and walked up to join the group, grudgingly.

“I wanna be there for you,” New Directions. “Someone you can come to. I wanna be there for you. Being someone you can come to. The love runs deeper than my bones. I wanna be there for you.”

As the song came to an end, New Directions pulled together for a group hug. Evan smiled from ear to ear.

“Come on, Mr. Schue,” Honey said.

“This is your moment,” Will said.

John and Jaxon reached out and grabbed Will, pulling him in to the group hug.

“We owe it all to you, Mr. Schue,” Evan said.

“You never gave up on us,” Miles said.

“Now that we’re a family again,” Jaxon said. “We’re gonna kick some serious Warbler and Holy Roller butts at Sectionals!”

Everyone cheered.

The End
