Glee: The Next Generation Season 2, Episode #14: Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now

So here’s what you missed on Glee: The Next Generation:

Claude and Jaxon’s date was a disaster and it’s obvious that Jaxon still loves James. James decided to head to Dalton and have a sing of with Claude, telling him that Jaxon was his, but Claude is going to fight for Jaxon. Kevin, Miles, and Evan are fighting for a solo at Regionals, which is coming up. Lana and Hallie finally took the next step as did Kevin and Rose. Evan tried to with Lucas, but Lucas is still resisting, which frustrates Evan because he can’t even touch his boyfriend. New Directions is gonna face Vocal Adrenaline at Regionals and they have a serious past with Archie Carmichael, their lead singer. Archie broke James’ heart and tried to get Jaxon. last time we saw Archie, India beat him up. Reece’s show choir will also be competing at Regionals, which may put a strain on his relationship with Bella.

And that’s what you missed on Glee!

Will put the dry erase marker down and turned to face the Glee Club. He smiled as he pointed to what he had written on the board.

“Regionals,” he said. “It’s time to figure out our set-list, guys. We have got to give it our all this year. You guys have all worked so hard and I don’t wanna see you guys lose. But you can bet that Jesse St. James has been working Vocal Adrenaline to the bone to prepare them. Archie is gonna come back with a vengeance.”

“Must you remind me?” Jaxon said. “We’ve had such a peaceful year without Archie showing his face, unlike last year.”

“I have it on good authority that it’s because Jesse’s working them pretty much twenty-four seven to prepare for Regionals,” Honey said.

“Where did you hear that?” Will asked.

“Rachel still talks to him sometimes,” Honey said. “He isn’t taking last year’s lost at Regionals and Nationals lying down. He’s out for blood. New Directions blood.”

“Then we have to pull out all stops,” Bella said.

“Rumor has it Vocal Adrenaline is going to be performing classic rock,” Honey said.

“Then let’s beat them at their own game,” Will said. “We’ll also do classic rock. It’s always been a strong choice for New Directions.”

Lana raised her hand. “Hallie and I have a song we’d like to nominate. We danced to it at the Sweethearts Dance Friday night and it seems perfect.”

Will nodded. “Let’s hear it, Lana.”

“The song is ‘I Wanna Know What Love Is’ by Foreigner. Although, we would prefer to sing the Mariah Carey arrangement if possible.”

Will nodded. “Okay, we have our first song unless there are any objections.”

The room was silent. Lana smiled.

“Alright,” Will said. “We have a duet. Now, let’s talk the solo. I’ve been thinking it over and all three of you guys worked really hard, but Miles really proved himself this week. So, I was thinking that he should get to choose what song he sings.”

Kevin sighed. “I’ll never get a solo.”

“Join the club,” Evan said, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms.

Will sighed. “Guys, there are still plenty of opportunities. Evan, you have had quite a few duets solos at competitions, which are amazing so don’t get me wrong. However, Miles and Kevin haven’t been given those opportunities. All I can suggest is to work harder for the Internationals solo.”

Evan shook his head. “Whatever.”

“Sorry to change the subject,” Miles said. “But I was getting depressed by the direction this conversation took. Anyway, I want to send a message to Vocal Adrenaline and that Archie creep. I want to sing Pat Benatar’s classic underdog anthem, ‘Invincible’ from The Legend of Billie Jean.

“Great choice,” Will said, scribbling the song title on the dry erase board. “Now, what will our group number be?”

Adam hugged Lana and started in the opposite direction to join Natasha. Ana shut her locker and watched as Natasha walked away, laughing at something Adam said.

“She rolls the window down and she talks over the sound of the cars that pass us by,” Ana sang, looking on at Natasha. “And I don't know why, but she's changed my mind. Would you look at her, she looks at me. She's got me thinking about her constantly but she don't know how I feel. And as she carries on without a doubt, I wonder if she's figured out I'm crazy for this girl.”

Ana began to walk down the hall, oblivious to everything around her as she sang.

“She was the one to hold me the night the sky fell down. And what was I thinking when the world didn't end? Why didn't I know what I know now? Would you look at her, she looks at me. She's got me thinking about her constantly but she don't know how I feel. And as she carries on without a doubt, I wonder if she's figured out I'm crazy for this girl. Right now, face to face, all my fears pushed aside. And right now, I'm ready to spend the rest of my life with you. Would you look at her, she looks at me. She's got me thinking about her constantly but she don't know how I feel. And as she carries on without a doubt, I wonder if she's figured out I'm crazy for this girl. Would you look at her, she looks at me. She's got me thinking about her constantly but she don't know how I feel. And as she carries on without a doubt, I wonder if she's figured out I'm crazy for this girl.”

Ana stopped walking, losing sight of Natasha. She frowned before continuing on her way.

Jesse St. James stood up, abruptly. He held his hands out in an attempt to stop the song.

“Enough!” He shouted. “That was terrible! Spider, you are all over the place. Watch Archie, do what he’s doing.”

“Archie has all the soul of a ton of bricks,” Spider said. “I do my own thing.”

“Not in Vocal Adrenaline, you don’t,” Jesse said. “You will do what I say because I will be damned if we lose to New Directions again. Not two years in row, I refuse.”

Archie stepped forward. “With all due respect, we lost to New Directions at Regionals. Okay? But we’re tired of being worked to the bone. I can do all the moves in my sleep. Can’t we take a break?”

“Do you think Jesse St. James got to ‘take breaks’ when he was leading Vocal Adrenaline like you are now?” Jesse asked. “No. You guys need to practice this until it’s second nature. Vocal Adrenaline is a group for winners. You are not winners!”

“Ease up, Mr. St. James,” Monique said. “That wasn’t very cool.”

“I am a winner, I want you guys to win,” Jesse said. “If you listen to me, you can win. It’s that simple.”

“Get over yourself,” Spider said. “This is a team, it’s not about you. Your glory days in Vocal Adrenaline are over. It’s our time, now.”

“Yeah, you’re pretty much a burnout,” Monique added.

“A has been,” Archie said.

“Fine,” Jesse said. “You think you can do this better on your own? Then do it! I’ll see you at Regionals. I wanna be there when it all comes crumbling down and you’ll all come crawling back to me.”

Jesse flung his clipboard across the auditorium as he got up and stormed out the door. Archie and Spider looked at each other for a moment before they looked back at Monique. They were all speechless.

Reece held Bella’s hand tightly as they stood outside Thurston’s auditorium. Bella smiled sweetly.

“I can’t believe Regionals is at Thurston this year,” Bella said. “And that I get to see you before and after we perform.”

“You look beautiful tonight, Bella,” Reece said.

“Always the charmer,” Bella said with a smile.

“Thus the reason my Glee Club is named the Southern Charmers. Even though I think a country music Glee Club doesn’t stand a chance against show choir legends like New Directions and Vocal Adrenaline.”

“Your Glee Club has you, Reece. I think they pretty much have a big chance.”

Reece blushed. “You’re just saying that.”

Bella shook her head. “I’m being honest, Reece. You are amazing. No one can play a guitar like you. And your voice, it’s heavenly.”

Reece smiled. “Bella, stop it. You’re making me blush. Gentlemen don’t blush.”

“I like when you blush,” Bella said. “It’s cute.”

“Well, I have to go backstage. We’re up first so I have to get ready. Wish me luck out there.”

Bella hugged Reece. “Good luck. Babe, you’re gonna be amazing.”

“As will you,” Reece said before giving Bella a kiss on her lips. “I love you.”

____________________________________________________________

Archie paced back and forth in the green room. Monique watched him uneasily.

“Can you please not do that?” Monique asked.

Archie sighed. “We lost Jesse. Are we really gonna do this without him? And more importantly, do we really even stand a chance?”

“Stop doubting,” Spider said. “Jesse was weighing us down. I’m so tired of his delusions of grandeur. He can’t stop living in the past. It’s all about the future.”

“And who the hell do you think you are?” Archie asked Spider. “You think you can just come in and take over Vocal Adrenaline?”

“You’re leaving in a few months. I’m the future,” Spider answered.

“Good luck leading Vocal Adrenaline to the heights I did,” Archie said.

“You sound like Jesse,” Spider said, moving in front of Archie.

“Cuz Jesse took me under his wing and helped mold me. And yes, maybe he was too mean here lately. But I owe so much to him.”

“Like making it through Regionals to Nationals last year thanks to only to another Glee Club dropping out? Yeah, he can be thanked for that.”

“Enough,” Aaron said, walking into the room. “You think this fighting is gonna get you anywhere? It’s clear to see, Spider, that all you want is power. So, you instigate a mutiny and get Jesse to quit so you can swoop in and magically take over Vocal Adrenaline?”

“Who are you?” Spider asked.

“Aaron Broadbent, former Vocal Adrenaline lead prior to Archie, and former right hand man to Archie. Which, I see you have also taken over. Oh well, there will never be another me.”

Spider scoffed. “Just like Jesse, and soon to be Archie, you’re a thing of the past.”

“If you’re the future,” Aaron said. “The future’s screwed.”

“Excuse me,” Jaxon said, standing in the doorway. “I was coming to wish you guys good luck.”

“They’ll need all they can get,” Aaron said. “Nice to see you, Jaxon.”

“Same,” Jaxon said with a nod.

Archie looked at Jaxon, smiling a crooked half smile. “Jaxon.”

“Well, we don’t want your good sportsmanship,” Spider said. “You’re the enemy. We plan to destroy you.”

“Well, at least New Directions can say we tried to be civil,” Jaxon said, turning around and walking out.

“Wait,” Archie said, running into the hall after Jaxon.

Jaxon turned around and faced Archie. “What?”

“Percy, uh Spider, he’s on a power trip. Just ignore him. We’re not gonna take it easy on you, but I appreciate you wishing us luck. I was a jerk last year and having to work with Spider has shown me just how bad I was. Consider the hatchet buried?”

Jaxon nodded as he shook Archies hand. “Buried.”

“I still think you’re hot, Jaxon. I heard you’re single now?”

“For now,” Jaxon said. “But it’s fixing to change. I’ve made it through my confusion.”

“Too bad,” Archie said. “We could have been a power couple.”

James walked down the hallway. “Jaxon? Everyone was looking for you.”

Jaxon turned toward James and nodded.

“James?” Archie said. “Is that you? You look great.”

James looked uncomfortable. “Thanks. Well, I’ll be getting back now.”

Jaxon looked at Archie. “Bye, Archie.”

____________________________________________________________

Jaxon walked into New Direction’s green room. He looked around, wondering what was going on.

“You guys wanted to see me?” Jaxon asked.

“Some of the Warblers are here,” Nicole said. “Claude came, too. He’s looking for you.”

“Where is he?” Jaxon asked.

“I have no idea,” Lana said. “But you should go find him. He insists on seeing you.”

Jaxon nodded as he headed out the door.

____________________________________________________________

James and Claude stood face to face in the hallway. James crossed his arms.

“Imagine running into you here,” James said. “Come to get your man-stealing claws on Jaxon?”

“I’m not a man-stealer,” Claude said.

“Funny you should say that. Considering how you were spotting kissing Chuck and now you’re after Jaxon.”

“I can’t steal Jaxon from you because he’s not dating you,” Claude replied.

“But Jaxon loves me and I love him. And I would give up everything in a moment for him. All of this, even a second consecutive Regionals championship. Jaxon means more to me than any of that.”

“You mean that?” Jaxon said, appearing in the hallway.

“Yes,” James said, turning to face Jaxon. “I will leave Aldy and all the other guys. I will stop all that. I will do anything you want me to.”

Jaxon thought for a moment. “You would really stop hanging with Aldy and his friends? And drop the bad boy persona?”

“Yes,” James said, stepping toward Jaxon. “None of this means anything to me. You have always meant the world to me. I did this to impress you and to make myself feel tougher, but I never meant to lose you.”

“You don’t have to be tough, James,” Jaxon said. “I made a promise to you to always protect you. I will never, ever, let anyone hurt you. I will never let you down. And I was just as foolish to let you go.”

“I love you, Jaxon. I love you more than life itself. Without you, I feel dead inside.”

Jaxon nodded. “I do, too. I have been trying so hard to fill the emptiness inside me when I realize that the only way to fill the void is to be with you.”

“Jaxon…” James said, trailing off as Jaxon grabbed him and kissed him.

Claude swallowed the lump in his throat, hiding the pain he felt. “I wish you two the best. It was nice while it lasted.”

“Claude,” Jaxon said, reaching out toward Claude.

Claude just turned around and walked away.

Hand in hand, Jaxon and James took their seat in the audience to watch Reece and the Southern Charmers.

“Thanks so much for coming out,” Reece said. “Alright, we’re gonna perform one last song for you guys. Hit it!”

As Reece joined the rest of the Southern Charmers, he gave Chad a high five.

“Oh my gosh,” Hallie said. “That’s Chad.”

“Glad to see he’s happy,” Lana said.

“Well, I walk into the room passing out hundred dollar bills,” Reece sang. “And it kills and it thrills like the horns on my Silverado grill. And I buy the bar a double round of crown and everybody's getting down and this town ain't never gonna be the same.”

“Cause I saddle up my horse and I ride into the city,” the Southern Charmers sang. “I make a lot of noise ‘cause the girls, they are so pretty. Riding up and down Broadway on my old stud Leroy and the girls say save a horse, ride a cowboy. Everybody says save a horse, ride a cowboy.”

“Well I don't give a dang about nothing,” Chad and Reece sang. “I'm singing and bling-blinging while the girls are drinking long necks down!”

“And I wouldn't trade ole Leroy or my Chevrolet for your Escalade or your freak parade,” Reece sang. “I'm the only John Wayne left in this town.”

I'm a thorough-bred that's what she said in the back of my truck bed,” Reece said. “As I was getting buzzed on suds out on some back country road.”

“We were flying high,” Chad said. “Fine as wine, having ourselves a big and rich time. And I was going, just about as far as she'd let me go.”

“But her evaluation of my cowboy reputation had me begging for salvation all night long,” Chad and Reece sang.

“So I took her out gigging frogs,” Reece said. “Introduced her to my old bird dog and sang her every Willie Nelson song I could think of.”

“And we made love,” Chad and Reece sang.

“What? What?” Chad sang.

“Save a horse, ride a cowboy,” Reece sang. “Everybody says save a horse, ride a cowboy.”

New Directions jumped to their feet and began to applaud as the rest of the auditorium joined in.

“Oh my god!” Breezy said. “Look at the judges!”

“Aunt April,” Kevin said.

“And Shelby,” Honey said.

“Is that who I think it is?” Miles said.

“Oh my god it is!” Jaxon exclaimed. “Adam Lambert! My idol! I can’t believe it. Someone hold me.”

Lana grabbed Jaxon. “Faint on me and I will punch you.”

“Fair enough,” Jaxon said.

Lana smiled. “Better?”

Jaxon nodded. “Yes.”

“Alright guys, get ready,” Will said. “Vocal Adrenaline is up next.”

“We have this in the bag,” Jaxon said. “I went back to their green room to wish them luck and I overheard something. Jesse St. James quit as their director. Some new guy named Spider made him. He’s like Archie but ten times worse.”

“Wait, so Vocal Adrenaline doesn’t have a director?” Will asked.

“No,” Jaxon said. “But that’s a good thing.”

“Not necessarily,” Dillon said from beside Nicole. “We Warblers don’t have a director either. Archie knows what he’s doing. You guys can’t afford to let your guard down just because Jesse quit.”

“Dillon’s right,” Will said. “They’re still gonna give it their all. This is Vocal Adrenaline we’re talking about after all.”

Vocal Adrenaline walked out on stage as the music started up. Jaxon swallowed a growing lump in his throat.

“Oh dear god,” Jaxon said. “They’re doing Queen! Adam Lambert has spent time as the frontman for Queen. They’re pandering!”

“Vocal Adrenaline beat New Direction at the 2010 Regionals Championship with Queen,” Will said, his mouth open in shock.

“We’re doomed,” Kevin said.

“Adventure seeker on an empty street,” Archie sang, stepping to the front. “Just an alley creeper, light on his feet. A young fighter screaming, with no time for doubt. With the pain and anger can't see a way out. It ain't much I'm asking, I heard him say gotta find me a future move out of my way.”

“I want it all, I want it all, I want it all and I want it now,” Vocal Adrenaline sang. “I want it all, I want it all, I want it all and I want it now.”

“Listen all you people, come gather round,” Spider sang, trading places with Archie. “I gotta get me a game plan, gotta shake you to the ground. Just give me what I know is mine. People do you hear me? Just give me the sign. It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth. Here's to the future for the dreams of youth.”

“Their vocals are flawless,” Evan said.

“They’re staying in perfect pitch,” Breezy added.

“Yep,” Kevin said. “Doomed.”

“Please stop saying that,” Aldy said.

“I want it all, I want it all, I want it all and I want it now,” Vocal Adrenaline sang. “I want it all, I want it all, I want it all and I want it now.”

“I'm a man with a one track mind,” Archie sang. “So much to do in one life time.”

“People do you hear me?” Monique sang.

“Not a man for compromise and where's and why's and living lies,” Spider sang. “So I'm living it all, yes I'm living it all.”

“And I'm giving it all, and I'm giving it all,” Archie sang. “It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth.”

“Here's to the future, hear the cry of youth,” Spider sang.

“I want it all, I want it all, I want it all and I want it now,” Vocal Adrenaline sang. “I want it all, I want it all, I want it all and I want it now.”

Will sat there motionless as the song came to an end. “Kevin, we’re not doomed. We just have our work out for us.”

“I actually agree with Kevin for once,” Miles said. “And that’s something I thought I’d never say.”

“I can’t sit here and listen to them anymore,” Jaxon said. “I’m getting depressed.”

“Me too,” Lana said.

“Let’s go backstage and get ready,” James said. “If I listen to any more, I’ll feel like charging the stage just to punch Archie.”

“I may have to be convinced not to do that anyway,” Aldy said.

Will felt his heart sink into stomach when the music for “Bohemian Rhapsody” began to play.

“Oh dear lord, not again,” Will said, looking at Emma. "Now, we're doomed.

____________________________________________________________

New Directions filed into the green room and took their seat with the exception of Jaxon, who stood there, looking around the room.

“This is usually the part where Mr. Schue gives us the all-important pep talk,” Jaxon said. “But since he’s back in the audience believing that we might be screwed, as captain of this Glee Club, I have to step in. Don’t let Vocal Adrenaline get you down. So what? They’re good. We’re better. We have things they will never have. We have a sense of family and a director who actually loves us. Not to mention a bunch of people in that audience who believe in us and will love us, even if we lose. You think anyone out there for Vocal Adrenaline will look at them the same if they lose?”

“No,” Honey answered.

“That’s right, Jaxon responded. “Vocal Adrenaline only cares about winning. If we go out there and give it our all, win or lose, we will be proud because we know we did this together.”

“That’s right,” Lana said. “I know I haven’t been with you guys for long, but you are my family away from home. Sometimes you love me more than my family.”

“Exactly,” James said.

“I know that if we lose, we still have each other and that means more to me than a Regionals Championship,” Lana said. “In five years, we may not remember this moment, but we will remember each other and what we mean to one another.”

Jaxon smiled at Lana. “So, let’s go out there and do this. Let’s win this, guys.”

____________________________________________________________

Hana and Lana stood motionless in the darkness behind the curtain. They looked in each other’s direction and smiled.

“I love you,” Lana said.

“I love you too,” Hallie responded.

“Welcome our next guests from William McKinley High in Lima, Ohio…the New Directions!” The announcer said over the loudspeaker. The audience applauded.

The curtains rose and Lana walked center stage as Hallie fell back to stage left, out of sight. Lana raised the microphone to her mouth as she looked out into the crowd.

“I gotta take a little time,” Lana sang. “A little time to think things over. I better read between the lines in case I need it when I'm colder.”

“In my life there's been heartache and pain,” Hallie sang, walking out onstage. “I don't know if I can face it again. Can't stop now, I've traveled so far to change this lonely life.”

“I wanna know what love is,” Lana and Hallie sang. “I want you to show me. I wanna feel what love is. I know you can show me.”

“I'm gonna take a little time, a little time to look around me,” Lana sang. “I've got nowhere left to hide. It looks like love has finally found me.”

I know you can show me. I wanna know what love is. I want you to show me. And I wanna feel, I want to feel what love is. And I know, I know you can show me.”

“Let's talk about love,” Hallie sang.

“I wanna know what love is, the love that you feel inside,” Lana sang.

“I want you to show me, and I'm feeling so much love,” Hallie sang.

Hallie reached over and took Lana’s hand as they walked to the front of the stage.

“I wanna feel what love is, no, you just cannot hide,” Lana sang.

“I know you can show me, yeah,” Hallie sang.

Hallie smiled at Lana as the music ended. Lana lifted the microphone back to her mouth.

“Thank you guys so much. We’re the New Directions. Please give a round of applause for Miles Larson.”

Lana patted Miles on the shoulder as he walked out onstage. The curtain closed behind him and the spotlight came to life, focused on him. He smiled to the crowd.

“This bloody road remains a mystery,” Miles sang, holding onto the microphone stand. “This sudden darkness fills the air. What are we waiting for? Won't anybody help us? What are we waiting for?”

The curtains rose, revealing New Directions standing in the back.

“We can't afford to be innocent,” Miles sang with New Directions singing backing vocals. “Stand up and face the enemy. It's a do or die situation. We will be invincible.”

Back in the back of the auditorium, Jesse St. James stood by the exit, watching New Directions. He didn’t seem too impressed. Neither did Spider, who sat in his seat near the front.

“This shattered dream you cannot justify,” Miles sang, taking the microphone out of the stand and cutting loose. “We're gonna scream until we're satisfied. What are we running for? We've got the right to be angry. What are we running for when there's nowhere we can run to anymore?”

“We can't afford to be innocent,” Miles sang with New Directions singing backing vocals. “Stand up and face the enemy. It's a do or die situation. We will be invincible. And with the power of conviction there is no sacrifice. It's a do or die situation. We will be invincible.”

“Won't anybody help us?” Miles sang. “What are we running for when there's nowhere nowhere we can run to anymore?”

“We can't afford to be innocent,” Miles sang with New Directions singing backing vocals. “Stand up and face the enemy. It's a do or die situation. We will be invincible. And with the power of conviction there is no sacrifice. It's a do or die situation. We will be invincible. We can't afford to be innocent. Stand up and face the enemy. It's a do or die situation. We will be invincible. We can't afford to be innocent. Stand up and face the enemy. It's a do or die situation. We will be invincible.”

“Invincible,” Jaxon sang, stepping forward and hitting a high note that brought the audience to their feet.

Miles gave Jaxon a high five as they both hurried into their positions for the next song.

“Looking in your eyes, I see a paradise,” Jaxon sang, looking to his left at James. “This world that I found is too good to be true. Standing here beside you, I want so much to give you this love in my heart that I’m feeling for you.”

Jaxon took James’ hand as they stepped back, letting Lana take her place center stage.

“Let them say we're crazy,” Lana sang. “I don't care about that. Put your hand in my hand, baby, don't ever look back. Let the world around us just fall apart. Maybe we can make it if we're heart to heart.”

“And we can build this thing together, stand in stone forever,” New Directions sang. “Nothing's gonna stop us now. And if this world runs out of lovers we'll still have each other. Nothing's gonna stop us, nothing's gonna stop us now.”

“I'm so glad I found you,” Aldy sang. “I'm not gonna lose you, whatever it takes to stay here with you. Take it to the good times, see it through the bad times. Whatever it takes is what I'm gonna do.”

“Let them say we're crazy,” Lana said. “What do they know? Put your arms around me, baby, don't ever let go. Let the world around us just fall apart. Baby, we can make it if we're heart to heart. Oh, all that I need is you. All that I ever need. All that I want to do is hold you forever, forever and ever.”

“And we can build this thing together, stand in stone forever,” New Directions sang. “Nothing's gonna stop us now. And if this world runs out of lovers we'll still have each other. Nothing's gonna stop us, nothing's gonna stop us now. And we can build this thing together, stand in stone forever. Nothing's gonna stop us now. And if this world runs out of lovers we'll still have each other. Nothing's gonna stop us, nothing's gonna stop us now.”

New Directions fell into their poses as the song ended and the lights cut off. They could hearing the deafening roar of applause as they panted from the rigorous dance routine.

Adam Lambert, Shelby, and April all sat at the table in the Judge’s Conference Room, which was really the gym office, debating on their votes.

“I don’t know who I should vote for,” Adam said. “That Jaxon kid has some pipes, but Vocal Adrenaline has some serious skills. But then again, I love how LGBT inclusive the New Directions seem to be. To be honest, I wasn’t feeling the Southern Charmers.”

“I spent a lot of years coaching Vocal Adrenaline,” Shelby said. “But to be honest, they aren’t as good as they used to be.”

“My vote is easy. The New Directions nailed it,” April said. “When they sang that Pat Benatar song, I was rooting for them. That song had a message to deliver and boy did they!”

“So, Shelby,” Adam said. “We have a vote for Vocal Adrenaline and one vote for New Directions. Looks like you’re gonna be the deciding vote.”

Shelby sighed as she looked down at the ballot. She scribbled the Southern Charmers in the third position. She thought for a moment before casting her final vote.

____________________________________________________________

New Directions, Vocal Adrenaline, and the Southern Charmers were all lined up on stage, eagerly awaiting the results. Jaxon took a deep breath before taking Lana and James’s hands. Miles reached down and put his hands on Jaxon’s shoulders and gave a gentle squeeze.

“You were amazing,” Miles said. “If we win, it was because of you. You really took charge as a leader today.”

Jaxon smiled. “If we win, this victory belongs to all of us.”

Adam Lambert walked onstage to a roar of applause. He mouthed a few thank-yous to the audience and he took his place at the microphone, envelopes in hand.

“Thank you guys for having me here to guest judge the National Show Choir Championship,” Adam said. “I would love to say that each and every person on this stage is amazing, win or lose. And now, for the results.”

Adam carefully opened the first envelop. “In third place, from Thurston High, the Southern Charmers!”

Reece smiled, trying to hide a defeated look as he stepped forward to take the trophy. Bella walked over and hugged him.

“I love you,” she whispered in his ear.

“And our winners,” Adam said, opening the envelope and pausing for effect. “From McKinley High, the New Directions!”

“Yes!” Lana said, jumping into Jaxon’s arm’s, hugging him.

“We did it,” Kevin said. “We won.”

Jaxon smiled as he twirled Lana and sat her down. He turned to James and threw his arms around him. They looked into each other’s eyes.

“This was for you,” Jaxon said.

“Jaxon!” Honey said, impatiently tugging at Jaxon’s sleeve. “Go get our trophy. Adam’s your idol, you should be the one to do it.”

Jaxon smiled. “You mean it?”

“MVP,” Miles said with a smile.

Jaxon walked forward and took the giant trophy. Adam shook Jaxon’s hand. Jaxon was speechless.

“You’re his idol,” Lana said.

Adam laughed. “Rock on, kid.”

Honey stood in the hallway as Shelby walked out of the office. She stepped forward just as Shelby looked up.

“Mom?” Honey asked.

Shelby smiled. “Zoey.”

“Everyone calls me Honey. It’s a nickname that kinda stuck.”

Shelby nodded. “Okay then. Honey. I actually came by to see you a few months ago. Rachel said she’d tell you I stopped by to see you once I found out that you knew. For years I didn’t know just where you were, unlike Rachel. Your parents pretty much drove me out of your life. After you were born, I had complications and now I can’t have any more kids. But I have a young adopted daughter named Beth.”

“My parents wouldn’t let you be a part of my life? But you’re my mom.”

“And they were your parents. They had the right.”

“No, they didn’t. It wasn’t fair. Rachel never told me that you stopped by. She’s just like them. Trying to keep me from you, the truth.”

“Rachel has good intentions. We just don’t have the best relationship. When Rachel found out, I didn’t know anything about being a mom, much less to a teenage girl. But now, I have Beth and I know a lot more and I want to be in your life, Honey.”

“It’s funny. I don’t even know who to trust anymore. My parents lied to me. Rachel lied to me. You’re the one person I trust.”

“You shouldn’t trust me after what I did. I was young and a struggling musician. I saw an opportunity for a next meal and a way to pay my rent. So, I had two surrogate children. It was the worst thing I ever did, giving you two up. I may not be able to salvage things with Rachel, but damn it I will do everything right with you from now on.”

Honey grabbed Shelby and hugged her. Shelby looked sad as he hugged her back.

“Just hold me, Mom. Please.”

“I will, baby,” Shelby said, patting Honey’s back. “I will.”

“There’s something I need to tell you. And before my dads find out. They’re gonna freak and I need your advice.”

“What is it?" Shelby asked.

Will looked around the room, gauging the smiles of all the happy students before him.

“We did it, guys. We defied the odds and beat Vocal Adrenaline…and, we won our second consecutive Regionals Championship. Give yourselves a hand.”

Everyone clapped and cheered.

“You know what I miss?” Nicole asked

“What?” Breezy responded.

“Those days when we’d celebrate our win with a really cheesy, happy song,” Nicole answered.

Everyone laughed.

“Let’s do it,” Bella said. “Right now.”

Miles nodded. “I agree. Let’s cut loose.”

Will smiled. “That’s what I like to see. Let’s do this!”

“And I came here to make you dance tonight,” Bella sang. “I don't care if I'm a guilty pleasure for you.”

“And I don't even know what kind of fool you're taking me for,” Jaxon sang. “So you've got some brand new clothes you never could afford before.”

“Oh brother, spare us all,” Evan sang, giving Jaxon five. “We don't care anymore. We just wanna get down on the floor.”

“You sold yourself to make it,” Taylor sang. “You can dish it but can you really take it?”

“You're never gonna get it with nothing,” Aldy sang. “’Cause nothing's what you got in your head. So stop pretending.”

“I came here to make you dance tonight,” New Directions sang as they began to dance all around the choir room. “I don't care if I'm a guilty pleasure for you. Shut up 'cause we won't stop. We're getting down 'til the sun's coming up. I came here to make you dance tonight. I don't care if I'm a guilty pleasure for you. Shut up 'cause we won't stop. We're getting down 'til the sun's coming up.”

“And I don't even read what the papers gotta say about me,” James sang. “Oh, no, I can't believe they take it so serious, seriously.”

“I'm so bored, oh please don't talk anymore,” Kevin sang. “Shut your mouth and get down on the floor.”

“So cynical?” Rose sang. “Poor baby, I can dish it 'cause I know how to take it.”

“You're never gonna win 'em all,” Nicole sang. “So leave 'em if they can't take a joke. I'm just playing.”

“I came here to make you dance tonight,” New Directions sang.

“And maybe someday I'll believe,” James sang. “That we are all a part of some bigger plan.”

“Tonight I just don't give a damn,” Jaxon sang. “So shut your mouth it's time to dance. If the world is ending, I'm throwing the party.”

“I came here to make you dance tonight,” New Directions sang. “I don't care if I'm a guilty pleasure for you. Shut up 'cause we won't stop. We're getting down 'til the sun's coming up. I came here to make you dance tonight. I don't care if I'm a guilty pleasure for you. Shut up 'cause we won't stop. We're getting down 'til the sun's coming up. I came here to make you dance tonight. I don't care if I'm a guilty pleasure for you. Shut up 'cause we won't stop. We're getting down 'til the sun's coming up.”

Everyone stop dancing and began to laugh as they hugged one another, high-fived, and acted goofy.

Back in Vocal Adrenaline’s choir room, Spider watched jealously from stage left as Archie worked on a new number.

The door to the auditorium gently opened and Archie could hear the masculine click of designer boots. He looked up to see Jesse St. James standing there.

“Well, you guys lost. Face it, you need me. Are you ready to come crawling back to me?”

Archie put his hands on his hips and looked at Jesse and back at Spider.
